Recently bought Minecraft for my kids, and a second controller but I can't get split screen to work. Surely they don't need an online gaming account for this to work on the same screen?

Any pointers?

My lad has Minecraft on the switch and he sets it up with split screen, 2 players. No idea how he does it. I think he found a setting somewhere. This is on the TV, not when in handheld mode.

Its scares me just how good he is on a computer and Minecraft at just 6 years old.

I'll ask him tomorrow and let you know.

Yes. Just press the plus (or minus) on the other controller/ joy con and player 2 will join.

The switch is a masterwork in console design and interface - even if it’s aging a bit now

each person will need their own login- create an account for each,  and you have to to be in the same world but you don't need an online account

its an amazing game and as complex as you want to make it

Pops up split screen not available.. I'll have another crack though.

I've created accounts for both kids, I'll check that they're linked on the Switch correctly.

They're very much in the exploring phase but I can see why the game is such a big hit.

Thanks for the input 👍

Some of this may depend on how the accounts are configured. I learnt the hard way that you need adult and then child accounts correctly linked for some stuff to go 2 player even when it's all on one system.

The game won't work and will give you that error if the World is set up as "multiplayer".

The way the game works is you can do split screen OR online multiplayer. But not both at the same time. Make sure it's not set to multiplayer, then as above use the plus button for a second player to join.

I'm not sure you need an account, you don't on PlayStation. The kids here do have separate accounts, but pretty sure when you join on splitscreen it gives a guest option on our Switch too.
