So we've had a Nintendo Switch since Christmas. In addition to the standard joy-con controllers that come with it we bought a couple of extra controllers, like the below.

Switch controller

These take standard AA batteries. At the time I didn't fancy paying out £60 a pop for the pro controllers. However one of the above has broken already, won't sync for some reason, and they chew through batteries like no ones business.

So do I just have to lube up, bend over and spunk £120 on two Pro controllers? There seem to be lots of options on eBay but not sure how good they'll be. If anyone has found the holy trinity of cheap, comfortable and reliable, please let me know.

For the exact reasons you mention above we invested in a pro controller. It’s not missed a beat since we got it at Christmas.  Buying one hurt, so I feel you pain if you need 2.

In the process of trying to get hold of a switch for my two lads and had pondered this question, so useful info thanks.

The bigger issue right now is where to get hold of one of the actual consoles, they are like gold dust!

That looks a good option above.

Jnr has a switch. He had an issue with the standard attached controllers that had to go back under warranty. It was a very common issue and i thought this thread was that. Not surprised that the bigger wireless one also sounds gash. I have not been that impressed with the switch but they seem to have the market cornered for younger games as it plays the holy trinity of Mario, Fortnight, Minecraft.

Thanks all. Will look at that 8-Bitdo dongle as that opens up a world of possibilities.

Hmm so the 8-bitdo dongle seems to only support one controller, if the reviews on Amazon are correct. Plus multiple don't play well if plugged into a hub. In addition I'd have to buy Xbox or PS4 controllers so the total cost is the same as a switch pro controller.
