Switch will be out for Christmas Day. Have a few games he can play online with neighbours kids - quite looking forward to Mario Kart myself. 😀 I haven’t “gamed” for a few years. Last experience was XBox Live quite a while ago.

I’m assuming that signing up for Nintendo online will be seamless and instant...but would like to avoid any Christmas morning disappointments. Is it all simple and easy to set up? Anything else we need to “have” other than a functioning Switch, smartphone and debit card?

Yep pretty straightforward like any subscription, i believe they give you a week trial aswell so may not need the debit card. You will need to setup a Nintendo account if you don't have one already.

I'm doing this also for the daughter. Is it easier than Xbox, that was a bloody nightmare when I did that a couple of years ago for my son. Did it all prior to Christmas day but took bloody ages updating and setting up.

Is switch a simpler system?

I don’t think you get the massive updated that you get in the other consoles as the os seems a lot simpler (based on storage size not my technical knowledge!)

Set up the accounts in advance on your computer, but the Switch isn't like the other consoles where setup takes an hour and then another hour of downloading before anything will play!

Yep, set the account up on line on on a device first, saves a lot of hassle. Every other household that is trying to do the same come Dec 25th could slow the servers down!

And get Breath of the Wild. Even do that first maybe.

Thanks all. Sounds painless enough. Was planning on setting up account this weekend anyway just in case servers slow down on Christmas morning.

Breath of the wild is incredible. We have it on the wii u and despite my grumpy 14yo son being as fickle as the famous fickle fashion fairy when it comes to games, he keeps returning to it, some 200 hours in and he’s at 42% completed.

Get overcooked as well for some multi player carnage.

And “shipped”, for cheap fun.

With Nintendo online you get:

Tetris 99 online game.
Super Mario 35 online.
SNES emulator.
NES emulator.

Super Mario 35 is worth it.

Just make sure you download them all.
