Anyone got any recipes that don’t involve me watching videos on YouTube?
I assume it’s a case of fry off onions and spices, then tip everything into Ninja and pressure cook. But how long for, and what ratio of (red) lentils to water?
I made the mistake of joining a Facebook Ninja Recipe group. Ask there I am sure you will love it.
Please don’t make me join a Facebook group 😬
slight tangent, but having just got one of these the 1-pot aspect obviously appeals... can you not do the onions/spices in the Ninja as well? It does have a sauté option! (not tried it yet tho)I assume it’s a case of fry off onions and spices, then tip everything into Ninja and pressure cook
how are you using more than 1 pot to make it anyway?
only takes 35 minutes in a pan anyway
I used this the other week, first time I've done dahl in the Ninja, picked fairly randomly from the first page of google results: https://www.cookincanuck.com/instant-pot-lentil-dal-recipe/
Annoying US units, but basically stock:lentils 2:1 by volume.
Came out nice, though a much smoother texture than I'm used to, which I guess is the pressure sort of pureeing the lentils.
Did it all in the Ninja using the saute function, as per the recipe.
I actually really like the US cup as a culinary unit, it seems a pretty sensible size! One cup of rice will do 2 people I find. Have a couple of "cups" in the drawer.Annoying US units
Interestingly in the US Ninja call it "air crisp" rather than "air fry" which also seems much more sensible!
Sauté mode works well
Used that function just before slow cooking a beef bourguignon from a Clodagh McKenna recipe
I have an instapot and use the saute function to start onions and such. You just have to make sure that there isn't anything stuck to the bottom of the pan or the burn protection kicks in and it doesn't actually get to pressure for the time and it's a bit easy to miss.
Oddly I was looking up some recipes today to use up some lentils and kidney beans I'd found in the cupboard.
Just make this on the hob (but add more salt). It's dead easy and bloody lovely:

https://myheartbeets.com/ has a load of instant pot veg Indian recipes which I assume transfer over to Ninja ok. In fact anything you want to cook you can probably search for an instant pot version of.
As others say, sautee mode for frying onions etc then add liquid and other ingredients and pressure cook.
Well I haven’t tried a dhal yet but can report the sauté/sear function works great on high for onions (and sausages!) 😀
Dhal and chapati with a cup of sweet milk tea (combined cost £1 in those days) were my breakfast for many years in the far east.
Dhal with ghee tastes better.
