Any reason not to? Its to replace my 18-55 lens as a general walkabout lens.

I also have a 35mm 1.8 for low light stuff.

I like the slightly wider and longer focal length of the 16-85.

I’ve had this lens for a couple of years, and have been impressed with it. It’s a lot heavier then the 18-55 and doesn’t focus as close, but we’re only talking a few cm. also it’s not that much wider.

Thanks. Weight doesn't bother me so much. Do you consider it a worthy upgrade to the 18-55?

Yes I do, but if I was buying now I’d probably go for the 16-80 f2.8-4

The older 16-85 is very popular and well regarded. Cheap as chips used

The faster newer one seems less sharp in reviews

I'll tell you what is a cracking good lens for the money - the 18-70. Not the fastest, but quite sharp for a kit-level lens.

Not really much of an upgrade over the 18-55 in terms of focal length though.
How much better is it than the current 18-55?

The 16-85 replaced the 18-70, didn't it?

I'm a big fan the of the 18-70

The F4.5 at 70mm gives alot more background blur than 55mm f5.6
