More seriously,
Have we really reached a point where "using colours" is problematic? I didn't look at that cross and immediately associate it with, well, anything. It's a poor rendition of the St George cross and, if it's supposed to be so at all which I doubt, a poor rendition of anything to do with LGBTQIA+ symbolism. As a standalone design in its own right it's quite pleasant.
Top R needs the thin swapping for the thick I think
Yup, the top right quadrant is incorrect. Nice catch.
The aspect ratio is wrong as well, but it usually is.
I don't care for the deaign much, but it has really upset the people I'd like it to.
If I was the designer for Nike responsible for this and was looking at the sort of idiot soiling their petticoats in outrage, I’d be pretty satisfied with my days work
Would the FA not have to sign these off also? I'm assuming there are some rules, much like with official cycling clothing. Or not?
I aways thought the military badge was dull in colour so it was less a red target.
Well, quite. But it's interesting what people choose to get irate about innit.
I see that my MP who was last heard from moaning about how early Easter eggs were in the shops, has now jumped on the populist bandwagon. I'd hazard a guess that the **** has never been to a footy match in his life but he's SUCH a man of the people. Or desperate for anybody to vote for him...

wear a green shirt and go to the home end of the ibrox and you’ll have your answer
That's a massive false equivalency.
Has any journalists printed out that "tory blue tree union jack" thing yet, thrust it into a politicians face and asked the hypocritical cockwombles to explain their sudden conversion to flag preservation?
If you recall the start of the last World Cup, the Tory party and the Gammon army were busy slating all the England players for taking the knee and giving it the usual 'Its wokeness gone mad!' faux outrage
Fast forward to said players actually stringing a few results together and we were treated to the delightful sight of this...

If Engerland get out of the group stages at the Euros in the summer I'm sure we'll see the same raging, shameless hypocracy and they'll all have one on, having despatched a minion to JD Sport with £124.99 from the expense account
Well Rangers don’t like Celtic and therefore anything green and Joey Barton’s ilk that are complaining don’t like ‘woke’ and therefore anything that resembles a pride flag. Unless I’m missing your point?
This has nothing to do with an old rivalry - it would be Rangers having some Celtic colours on their kit. This isn't England having German or French colours on their kit.
The nearest could be Cardiff 'The Bluebirds' changing to red as their home colour when a owned by a Chinese businessman.
So glad I don't have to listen to the people I used work with who would have been gob-shiting to the max over this.
I just don't get it or care enough to look it up or even go through all the posts on this thread, it was obviously going to spark debate that's why they've done it, but why not use all the rainbow colours to make it more eye catching and attractive, my initial reaction was it's just purples blues and reds for no reason, seems pointless.

Well, according to Nike there is a reason but
I just don’t get it or care enough to look it up or even go through all the posts on this thread
so you wouldn't know it's apparently a nod to the '66 colours.
Worrying the number of folk who cannot distinguish a collar on a football shirt from a flag. Happy about the blue shorts though.
(Apparently you could only get shorts in navy blue, black or white until the 1960s. Liverpool and Chelsea used to have white shorts and this also explains the popularity of certain kits to today like white shirts/navy shorts.)
The Peter Saville designed shirt is still my favourite, white from a distance, lots of small coloured crosses on the shoulders close up. Wish I’d bought one.
https://www.designboom.com/design/peter-saville-x-umbro-new-england-home-kit/
Sounds like someone designed the top without knowing how much negativity it would create if they tampered with the flag.
The prices are extortionate, especially the kid's one.
The way Nike bought Umbro partly to get the rights to the England jersey then drop Umbro after moving the contract over to Nike is distasteful, the FA should have dug their heels in and demanded that the Jerseys are still made by Umbro at a more affordable price.

But I shouldn't be surprised that money overrides everything else.
Could be worse Germany has ditched adidas for that horrible tick company.
I wonder if they're going to be "playful" with the German shirt too. Think how much uniting and inspiring they could do with, say, a black, red and white flag.
No wait....
As Ilve in Scotland, I try to avoid colours of prominent Scottish football teams, so......
- No red, white and blue.
- No green and white stripes.
- No green, white and orange mix.
- No maroon.
- No grass green and white.
- No orange.
- No blue and white.
Doesn't leave many colours, just wear black 😞
Just pointing out how colours can upset certain people.
Sounds like someone designed the top without knowing how much negativity it would create if they tampered with the flag.
This isn’t the first time they’ve had different colours.
Anyone that gets upset by a flag has some other, more serious issues, going on. I can’t even muster the slightest of shits. Only writing this whilst waiting for Mrs F to settle the kids so we can watch some Shogun.
Then again, if it upsets some right wing cry babies I’m all for it!
Anyone that gets upset by a flag has some other, more serious issues, going on.
Such as running the country... Maybe something to bury?
It's just a logo derived from the flag with some creativity. It's all subjective and anyone's entitled to not like it, but the reasons some are coming up with are pretty narrow minded.
There's the actual flag that flies over the kings house and all that pomp, and there's something about national identity.. so good work Nike imho.
It’s not a flag anyway, it’s a cross on a shirt. Idiots. The shit people get wound up about vs the shit they actually put up with amazes me.
The shit people get wound up about vs the shit they actually put up with amazes me.
It's all confected culture war bullshit, designed to distract people from realising that their lives and their country have gotten much worse over the last few years.
You might call it a false flag exercise B)
It's all laughable really. However, why do England wear white & blue, when the English flag is white and a red cross?
And, have Nike done similar with other countries new kits? If not, why only the English kit?
Already mentioned, Germany signing to the US Nike, and leaving German adidas after 40+ years......I never thought I'd see the day. 1978 was the last major tournament Germany didn't wear adidas - erima in Argentina.
The blue thing may be a quirk in kit history. It appears that shorts were a bit Henry Ford, only they also came in white or navy blue. Other colours appeared in the 1960s. England wore white or navy shorts during this time.
Not wearing the colours of your flag is a Normal Thing in football - other traditions are sometimes mined, often due to royal families or aristocratic patrons e.g. Scotland started out in yellow and pink. Infamously Brazil changed their colours from white/blue to the yellow, green, blue white of their flag after not winning the World Cup in 1950. They did not change after Belo Horizonte in 2014 however.
Sorry to hear about Nike getting their mitts on Germany.
"it was merely a football related example of somebody not liking a colour or colour(s) because of <reasons"
It's not the best choice to use Ibrox as an example because Rangers have not allowed Celtic fans to attend matches for quite some time.
Just seen it's upset Lawrence Fox, so I have gone from not caring to liking that new flag
apparently he's been leading a rally at the Cenotaph today "Good to speak today at the cenotaph about the things Britain can be proud of. Those who seek to demoralise us all should not succeed"
In a pair of prominent Nike trainers.
I hope the monument is protected.
And, have Nike done similar with other countries new kits? If not, why only the English kit?

It’s just a logo derived from the flag with some creativity.
Creativity? Really? Where? When I first saw the ‘design’ on the news, the last thing it reminded me of was the cross of St George. A cross also used by a number of other countries, and always red on a white background. I’m not a great designer by any means, but I could have done better than that, and charged less for it too.
the last thing it reminded me of was the cross of St George.[/quite]Really? Never mind the context of it being on an England shirt, you mean to say you felt that little logo has no resemblance to the flag?
I can understand the viewpoint that a flag shouldn’t be messed with (Even though loads of other examples have been provided that don’t appear to have boiled anyone’s blood), but the argument that it doesn’t resemble the St George’s cross is clearly nonsense.
Where?
Whether you like it or are impressed by it or not, it's creative work. For it to be less immediately associated with the St George cross might be intentional, like that's not the main point. It might be that the cross is so obvious in that context they didn't want to do the obvious with colours or didn't feel it was needed.
I could have done better than that
I'm sure a lot of people think that : )
Just read that Laurance Fox is upset about it so, for that reason, and that reason alone, I think Nike should keep it as it is. Or make it even more colourful.

I think it is a pathetic viewpoint. Nationalism is an odd and somewhat irrational concept. I also think it looks nothing like a flag . If I saw it out of context, George Cross wouldn’t even cross my mind. Surely that proves it isn’t nonsense. Stick 10 football shirts in a row with that one in there and I’d still not guess it was part of an England kit.
Just look at the kind of people it’s upsetting too. Hardly the most rational bunch to begin with.
I enjoyed that walloper fox moaning to a handful of racists about Nike, while wearing Nike trainers. Self own of the day.
Imagine a Scotland kit with the Scottish flag in yellow and green.
Fair enough. Just as long as it isn't orange.

3rd person to post that. Does no-one read other comments?

You came be sure Fox really dislikes something till he's actually burnt it. That's his real litmus test.
Well it would be but he doesn't like litmus tests...
All this thread needs is more Lambrini Girls 😉🤣
I've not read this thread but how is that cross type symbol any different from Mini tail-lights or cushions with different coloured union flags on etc?

Yes, but that’s the only photo. Did you notice that?
He appears to be grumbling to 3 reporters as the rest of the people try to get on with their day...

Well those things aren’t on the team kit of the national side, the purpose of which is to identify the nationality of the team. You can’t deny there is a symbolism there that isn’t present on a brake light
FWIW I couldn’t give a monkeys, but it is hard to avoid the conclusion that Nike are buggering about with the flag given that they are spouting on about being ‘disruptive’ and a ‘playful update’.
The cynical side of me would say that nike knew exactly what they were doing, they knew it would cause controversy which is ultimately good for them.
The other side is that its a football kit, who cares.
Just look at the kind of people it’s upsetting too. Hardly the most rational bunch to begin with.
Yep, I’ve kept a few numpties on Facebook, just to see what utter shite, they like/repost.The latest and greatest is:
THE DAYS OF OF WALKING
ON PINS AND NEEDLES
ARE OVER. THE DAYS
OF WORRYING ABOUT
FEELINGS HAVE
ENDED, IT’S TIME TO
STEP ON SOME TOES
AND TAKE OUR
COUNTRY BACK!
I’m not sure what it’s about but if any 60+ old farts start stepping on your feet then watch out it’s er the revolution 🙂
On a serious note it’s pretty frightening how the angry old retirees seem to be spending their twilight years getting more angry.
TBH if you go onto https://www2.englandstore.com
and check out the various shirts over the years you just really wonder wtf this is all over.

IT’S TIME TO
...
TAKE OURCOUNTRY BACK!
I'm increasingly perplexed by this narrative. Who is taking what back from whom? Far as I can tell, our country hasn't gone anywhere.
you just really wonder wtf this is all over.
I think that many readers could say with a degree of confidence what this is actually "all over."
To summarise...it's a bag of bollocks.
Surely they should be angry with the chaps in charge of the English national side. A blazer somewhere has got to have signed that design off.
My God, where is the humanity?

Shamelessly stolen from facebook
