You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm going to be in Glasgow for a few days at the beginning of March, and am wondering what to do with myself in the evenings. Any suggestions?
For context, I'm a complete country bumpkin so will be like a fish out of water. Would quite like to see a show, comedy gig, band, etc, but I'm not into "having it large" or partying till dawn. I'll also need a clear head in the mornings.
tbh I'd be happy to sit in my room reading a book, but that seems like a waste of an opportunity - I can do that at home any day.
Over to the STW hive-mind. What do you suggest?
PS: Dates are the evenings of 1st and 2nd March, if that makes a difference
PPS: Work travel allowance does not run to taking a bike with me.
Self Esteem are playing in the Queen Margaret Union on the 01st. Great singer/songwriter. Not the best venue for sound, but head out to Ashton Lane for some pre gig moules frites/Belgian beers at Brel.
Get yourself to the cathouse😁
Avoid the city center, especially Sauchiehall St, full of ne'er-do-well's and stick to the west end. Byres Rd is good.
A number of members are from here, so best not tell where exactly you're thinking of going at any specific time 😉
Not sure who’ll be on on those dates but The Stand comedy club is usually a good bet. And go for a curry. Glasgow is great for them. But yes stick to the west end and avoid the dodgy city centre.
Probably of no interest to the Op, but is the Sub Club still going? Love that place.
Last time in Glasgow for me was suckyhall St... the garage mainly
Fancy an upper class Indian restaurant?
Haven’t been but follow their page, love to go.
Wow - thanks for he quick replies.
I'm getting "avoid the city centre" and "head for west end" as stand-outs. At the risk of sounding really dumb, what constitutes the west end?
Byres Road.
Byres Road. Woodlands Rd, Gibson St, Great Western Rd, towards the Byres Rd end.
Nice big busy pub on the corner of Byres and Great Western called Òran Mór.
Voodoo room.
@duncancallum I have a horrible feeling I knew you in a previous life.
If I said Nice’n’Sleazy, The State and just occasionally Clatty Pat’s…
@igm Nice n sleazy i know....
I'm an exiled posh scouser with family from clydebank.
I do Glasgow for gigs n love a bit of a dive....
Was there last year for massive wagons. Ended up n sleazy with the band. **** I was rough afterwards 😃
I’m 30 years in Yorkshire, but grew up and did uni in Glasgow. Wee brother played downstairs in N’n’S
Ask a local about Clatty Pat’s - fantastic and horrific in equal measure.
Clattys. Looks bigger than I remembered.

On your way into a pub if you’re stopped by the bouncer and asked whether you’re carrying a knife, don’t stress. It’s no big deal if you aren’t, they usually have spares.

Thats quite a night, swap clatty pats with the subby and i'm in.
Nice and sleazy's is great. Went there a lot while I served out my ban from the solid rock
The best club in Glasgow is long gone, the brilliant rat trap that was down by the brommielaw
Don’t completely write off the city centre, yes definitely avoid sauchiehall street but there are lots of good bars / restaurants in the city centre.
Definitly the stand for comedy and the Glasgow film theatre is a lovely old cinema which shows more independent type films if that’s something your interested in and the gallery of modern art is worth a look and I say that as someone who knows naff all about art . Also the Loading bay is a short walk from town and open till 10pm https://www.theloadingbayglasgow.com/index Hire a bmx and have a play , the big room is pretty beginner friendly and the cafe does pretty good food .
I don’t get out much these days but we went here https://www.iguanas.co.uk/restaurants/Glasgow/glasgow for my wife’s birthday and it was excellent.
echo and the bunnymen appear to be playing barrowlands on the 1st if thats your thing?
