Cracking comment... "Cooke said: "When Lance cries on Oprah later this week and she passes him the tissue, spare a thought for all those genuine people who walked away with no rewards - just shattered dreams. Each one of them is worth a thousand Lances."

Ouch

A true cycling great IMO and well done on saying this

"When Lance cries on Oprah later this week and she passes him the tissue, spare a thought for all those genuine people who walked away with no rewards - just shattered dreams. Each one of them is worth a thousand Lances.

She would have done better had she been a team player. Can't say I'll miss her - she wasn't a great rider to watch.

Can't be, it doesn't start with "anagallis_arvensis - Member"

Also, perhaps not using the word "retarded" would help if you're going to insult someone

Not really.
Great rider, fantastically talented and she'd make mincemeat of any roadie on here but she was never a team player and never particularly well liked within the peloton. Respected and admired, yes. Liked - not really. But then you don't become the greatest female rider of your generation by setting out to win popularity contests either.

When I was at uni in Cardiff I used to ride out with the local club on their Sunday runs occasionally. She turned up one biting cold winters day in shorts and a LS lycra racing top - everyone else was in full winter thermals, it was well below zero. We stopped at the mid-way cafe point, about 45 miles in and she just kept going. The regulars said it was normal. She'd apparently do about 160 miles on days like that, getting home when it was dark, blue with cold. Her Dad (who coached her) basically said "you ride till you can't ride any further - then you turn round and cycle home". She was about 14-15 at the time. Interesting mix of proper hardcore and bloody stupid!

Hey Crazy Legs....we all know she was a knob off the bike but on it she was different class. And you're right, she'd destroy 99.9% on here (on road, cross or MTB)

I'd agree with you if you said 100% 🙂

It's a pity some of the active male stars of the sport aren't making equally scathing comments.

Mucho respect! She was the female equivalent of Jens Voight minus the doping.

She was also part of a team of pro's who destroyed all comers for a number of years but she never got the support of a strong British team. She was five years or so too early for that.

Great rider and a shame she never got the backing she deserved as a pro. Sure her personality didn't click with everyone around her but lets face it a slightly abrasive personality is pretty common in elite athletes who's prime focus is their own performance.
