Was he Jonah "you farted miss" from Summer heights high, he must argue with himself in the mirror
Meh, I quite like him
They've got rules so they can use them if they want but he's probably great box-office
Wimbledon thread?
I know my eyes are failing honest I never saw it
I think he's a dick.
Class A Dick. Frankly I'm amazed they allow him on the tour.
I think he's good box office entertainment - both on and off the court. His interview after the game with Nadal was so arrogant it was hilarious.
What does wrangle with me is the attitude of 'i admit I could be much better but just can't be bothered'. Surely when you're a pro, wanting to be the best is your main motivating factor? Or, is he just there to occupy the mid ranks, earn his money, and call it quits when it's time? Having that attitude and being so open about it just seems pretty rare and crappy for a professional sportsperson!
Maybe it's an Australian thing?
Bernard Tomic fined for not meeting 'professional standards
No place for them if that's the way they want to behave.
My nine year old descibed him as an "arsehole".

This is why I like him - I think it's funny that he's so open about it. Yes, there's times when he's a bit of a dck, but at least he's got a bit of character. Pulling out of a tournament because he wanted to play in the celebrity NBA all star game for example, I think good on him.
It's different in team sports where he would be letting down team mates or fans, but for an individual sport so doesn't make the blindest bit of difference to anyone else.
Heard him on the radio this morning, refusing to apologise for aiming a ball directly at an opponent.
He is a complete banger.

Some other bits of what he does make him look more of a cock, maybe, but he's hardly unique in that aspect
There was a goalkeeper in the ?Italian league who spent 2 years or so on the bench, raking in bloody good money while never playing
Josh Bryceland - not your most dedicated trainer or hard-nosed competitor but people love him all the same

It's a bit more than that though- he's taking up space in a tournament limited by entry numbers, that he may or may not be going to take seriously.
This will piss off some or all of:
Fellow professionals, especially the person who would have got a place if Kyrgios didn't enter
Tournament organisers
Sponsors
Ticketholders expecting to see a decent match.
See also Tomic, Sharapova, Boulter.
Don't know that much about him as a person, seems he could use a little guidance. In a world of monochrome, media trained sports personalities, he's certainly a breath of air, if not necessarily fresh! Certainly a talented player, wouldn't be the first athlete to dislike the sport in which he/she happens to excel. Agassi famously hated tennis, his solution was to nearly kill himself through drugs and alcohol, hopefully Kyrgios won't go down that route. At least he's honest about how he feels and the demands of being a top level professional.
Find this "he aimed at the opponent" stuff confusing. When I was being coached years ago I was taught to aim at the person at the net. Not to hurt them but because it makes it hardest for them to volley it back. Nadal saying that he risks injuring someone is just sour grapes, if you approach the net you should expect to get in the way of the ball from time to time, the doubles players deal with it all the time.
And if we're going to draw peoples character into the equation there's an awful lot of unanswered questions regarding Nadal's association with Fuentes the Spanish Dr convicted of doping numerous Spanish athletes over a considerable period of time. Not knocking Nadal's skill a s a player. He is superlative. But his ability to grind out rallies and results would take a very hard toll on his body, one would think..

Yeah, and i guess that's the difference between him and Tomic, using that example from this week. Kyrios seems to not give a hoot and still play well, get into grand slams and entertain the paying crowd, whereas Tomic got in and just couldn't be bothered to even give it a go - that's where even if you are in an individual sport you do let people down - i.e. sponsors, promoters, TD, and paying crowd.
Yes a real fruit loop if ever there was one!
Warmed to him much more after that game. He was right to be a bit miffed at the umpire when he said he'd choose when to uphold the rules. Nadal gets away with a lot of time wasting. No issue with the body shot. It's part of the game and the only reason Nadal was miffed was because he lost the point. Same for the underarm serve.
I like his honesty - it's refreshing that he openly speaks his mind. What I despise is how he sometimes acts on court - it is disrespectful to the game and to his opponents.
Josh Bryceland – not your most dedicated trainer or hard-nosed competitor but people love him all the same
Ah, but with Bryceland he aimed for the top step, and succeeded until he couldn't be bothered / priorities / beliefs changed, and what did he do? He stepped away from it after one season, called it quits, and said it wasn't for him. People love him for his stance and his talent, not his arrogance and petulance!
There is a difference between not training and still having the will to succeed based on raw talent, versus but not being bothered, making a constant show of your negativity, and still kicking about year after year on tour. It's just setting a rubbish example for pro sport - isn't it?

Why is this any different to bowling a bouncer at someones head in cricket? The ball was in play, his shot was within the court bounderies and he won the point.
all funkrodent +1

It wasn't that fact that he played the shot, I don't give a shit about the tennis.
It was his attitude .
He basically said (and I'm wildly paraphrasing here) " I aimed it directly at his chest beacuse I wanted to hit him because he's won loads of Grand Slams and he's really rich"
Petulant roaster
I was there yesterday for the match and loved every minute of it - really entertaining. I've always liked him. Even more so now because he seems to upset some of the snowflakes in here.
And basically what Funkrodent said. It's good we have these characters in sport (the ones with a personality).
It’s just setting a rubbish example for pro sport – isn’t it? Really? Dear god....
Doesn't show much respect for a sport he is pretty good at, would he get away with it at golf or F1?
Räikkönen?
I think the arrogance is fine if it's backed up with winning. Otherwise he just looks like a petulant loser.
Tomic, Sharapova, Boulter
What has the delightful katie boulter been accused of that throws her in with the other 2?
Both tomic and kyrgios are absolute knobends.come across as petulant children. Only time I've supported Nadal in my life.
Well I disagree. He is an awesome raw talent and the other Pro's know it - which is why he's liked by a lot of them. Even on court yesterday he was having a laugh with Nadal - you just don't see those bits reported in the media.
The Bryceland comparison is interesting. Notwithstanding the fact that Josh is a fairly constant exponent of illegal substances (just say no kids), when he decides to drop off the DH circuit he had lots of other options (including making sick edits). Not sure that applies to big Nick.
For those saying that he is taking places at tournaments that other pros could/should have, let's not lose sight of the fact that he's currently in the top 50, has won 5 ATP finals (and reached the finals of another 8). He's a bit more than just some guy mooching around the circuit. It seems to be fairly well documented that the demands of the tour, particularly on the younger players, are somewhat onerous. In the enlightened times in which we live I wonder whether some of his behaviour could be interpreted as a cry for help. Or does that make me a snowflake?
