Well, Farage was clearly much better informed on the day, and made Clegg look a bit dim, slow and typical shady (avoiding the lies question).

To my surprise, Farage came across less predjudiced against "Jonny Foreigner" (not my words) than I thought, clearly positioning an immigration system based on relevant skills and a geniune desire to contribute to UK society a la Australia's system.

The biggest issue really being, no one really knows the impact of a Euro withdrawal - although Farage was keen to point out is was a withdrawal of power and policy dictat rather than one of commerce & trade.

Quite obvious that becuase no one knows what's really happen if we withdrew, not one single politician apart from Farage (loony or educated?) would take a referendum - they are scared of the resulting change.

UKIP then, what am I missing from what looks like a genuine attempt at standing up to the european parliament...?

Yes they just want the benefits of Europe without the responsibility. It's like me saying I want the benefits afforded to everyone else in the UK without having to contribute through tax and NI.

It makes for an easy soundbite but fails even a basic level of scrutiny.

Looking after the interests of your country makes you a rascist biggot.
It's true, I read so on here.
Unless you're Scottish.

Watch it ... ๐Ÿ˜†

How did Clegg manage to become the leader of Lib Dem I don't know and yes he does look dim. I prefer Vince Cable over him any day. Their best leader so far is the ex-SBS bloke what his name?

Don't know why this debate even happened. Actually I do, because most of the media is right-wing and wants us out of the EU, and farage is their new hero.

I don't know why Clegg got involved in a dispute between the Tories and UKIP, the Tories are the ones that are going to suffer, because it may split their, lets say "traditional" voters vote between them and UKIP.

Hence their panic induced decision to hold a referendum.

Clegg challenged Farage to a debate, Farage accepted, and LBC made sure it happened - free and good publicity for their recent national rollout.

The LBC debate was part 1, part 2 is on BBC TV next week.

Think the years of being in government has dimmed Nick's brain. Seemed slow and defensive, not the Nick we saw in the election debates

To be honest I don't know how a referendum is actually going to achieve anything regardless.

If there is a vote, it is non binding,
If the government decides to accept the referendum you then have huge problems.
The UK is bound by EU law/directives if they want to sell into the EU area.
Much of UK law is actually based on EU law.

So what changes? Do we rip up every law based on EU directives? Do we start phasing out Burgundy passports and go back to the old style? How much time and effort would be involved in re-negotiating all the trade agreements? How will CAP reform work, do we really think farmers aren't going to get given money? Do we redesign the arrivals lounges at airports? etc etc etc etc etc.

It is also all well and good saying that power will be in Westminster, to be fair they have pretty well f***ed it up in every detail where they are in charge! And do we really want Westminster to have power over everything, or would we better off devolving power to the regions? Then again local councillors!

To come out of Europe verges between impossible and incredibly long winded. Certainly not go to bed on Friday in and wake up on Monday out.

I'm an ex libdem (was SDP in my day)and hate Clegg with a vengeance, the lib dems under him have been totally marginalised and it's an attempt to hang his hat on the European debate, Clegg is after all a consomethinge Eurocrat.
I can't say I've had a lot of time for the smoking beer swiller, but ever since he landed on his head in that plane accident he has come across a little more plausible, he certainly had the measure of Clegg in that debate.
Having traded with Europe for many years, I'm definitely with the better off out camp for far too many reasons than I care to list here, they can't afford not to trade with us, so such an agreement even continuing under current duty free lines could be arranged which would suit both parties, but without the Eurocracy and with more freedom to organise deals direct with other markets we'd be far better off imv.
He also has a point about the Eu - Ukraine thing how long did everybody expect Putin was going to allow Europe and nato creep right up to his doorstep? Farage just didn't put it too well and gave Cleggy a sound bite straw to cling to all day today - ****er.
