I seem to have stumbled across the world of competitive scything whilst simultaneously needing a new lawnmower. Does anyone in the real world actually mow their lawn with a scythe?

I know an Australian who does a bit in here and there in Verbier. Steep terraces mean access for machinery is hard and there's actually a bit of call for someone handy with a scythe.

Reckons it's very satisfying when you get an efficient technique. Plus there's the satisfaction of surprising people who thought there's no way you'd be any good at it.

This chap doesn't look (much) like death.

Jez at Longstaffs teaches scything - good bike and scythe crossover there!

I use one in the local park, because we're not allowed to use power tools - and because it's funny to walk through Maryhill with a scythe 😉
