We have a week staying beside Yarm (nice place...) again this year. Whitby and York (inc aircraft museum) visited previously.
Harrogate nice for a family day out?
Ripon? Richmond?
Thanks.
Haworth is worth a visit. I can give you a comprehensive list of places to avoid
North York Moors Railway is worth a trip, as is Richmond and the dales.
Helmsley is nice. Plenty of walks from the village. There is Riveaux Abbey near by plus a bird of prey centre that is worth a visit.
Ripon, nowt there but Ligh****er valley is near if you like theme park rides etc.
Barnard Castle is lovely, has a good museum. Combine it with a trip up Teesdale to see High Force/Cauldron Snout.
Richmond, Middleham, Masham, Forbidden Corner all sensible places to get to from Yarm. Great Ayton, Guisborough and the moors if heading the other way
Yorkshire sculpture park is great.
If you want to visit Harrogate I would suggest you do it as part of a trip to other places, not a lot to keep a family occupied for a half day, never mind a full day but a pleasant place to kill an hour or 2 - valley gardens is free, RHS Harlow Carr costs an arm and a leg.
Tag it on a trip round the dales taking in such places as Masham, Pateley Bridge, Grassington, Bolton Abbey and Skipton and you’ll have a nice day out , if slightly long for the driver.
Harrogate would be worth a visit.
Skipton is nice and might be worth looking at the train ride to Carlisle over the Ribblehead viaduct (I've not done this yet but keep meaning to).
If over by the coast, the drive down the east coast is nice taking in Runswick Bay and Staithes - skip past Whitby since you've been there and end up at Robin Hood's Bay.
Skipton is nice and might be worth looking at the train ride to Carlisle over the Ribblehead viaduct (I’ve not done this yet but keep meaning to).
Skipton is quite a long drive. Would be better from Yarm to drive to Appleby (horse fair dependent) or Kirkby Stephen, catch the train to Skipton (or Settle), dodge some grannies for a bit, then get the train back.
Ilkley obvs, including walk on the world famous moor
Richmond (castle), and/or Bolton Castle, Leyburn (ice cream shop), Forbidden Corner (picnic), Aysgarth falls, Semerwater-for a swim(if the weather's nice), Hawes.
Thorpe Perrow arboretum near Bedale, the Wensleydale railway, Castle Howard, The Yorkshire arboretum next door. Eden camp, Malton
Saltaire but a good 3hr round trip albeit thru some interesting towns like Ilkley...Masham has an interesting local industry and plant tours are available
Not a town but Aysgarth falls
Saltaire? Nothing there but an old mill. And a bike shop. And Fanny’s Ale House. And a canal. And some terraced houses.
Masham’s local industry is beer. Theakstons and Black Sheep, which is also owned by someone called Theakston.
including walk on the world famous moor
It'll certainly light up your weekend
