I'm going to Newburgh, Fife, for a day shortly and we're going to drive up the night before so looking for any recommendations on a place to stay.
We'd like a nice hotel/pub type place with restaurant and bar and ideally within 30-40 mins of Newburgh.
Willing to spend a decent amount if needed but def not in the Gleneagles price bracket!!

Any thoughts?

Balbirnie Hotel in Markinch? 25 mins from Newburgh.

As above, Balbirnie House hotel is nice, sister-in-law had her wedding there.
If it was me I'd pick somewhere in Falkland, perhaps Ross House Hotel, and visit the The Stag Inn.

Anything around couper Angus?

I don't think you'll struggle.

I like Perth it's a lovely wee city

Peat Inn, though that might be a/ a bit fancy and b/ a bit too far from destination.

Peat Inn. Not cheap but close to Newburgh and the food is amazing.
If you can afford it you won’t regret it.

Falkland would be my shout, as above. Nice quaint village, a couple of excellent pubs, half an hour to Newburgh.

Having said that, it's nice along the Tay, there is likely to be a nice waterfront holiday cabin or similar in Newburgh, Abernethy, etc.

^^^ What ox says.

I'm not sure if Lindores Distillery does accommodation or evening meals but it's a nice spot.

Shameless plug for my brother’s place in Falkland. It’s next door to the Palace. There are a couple of pubs which do reasonable food in the village, but a jaunt to the Peat Inn or one of the good eateries in St Andrews aren’t far away

The Ship Inn in Elie https://www.shipinn.scot/

Or somewhere in Dunkeld.

The Premier Inn in the centre of Perth is also nice with a lovely bar/restaurant next door (Kisa - https://kisas.co.uk/).

Speaking of the Ship Inn, there's a Ship Inn just outside Limekilns, I had lunch in there once. The food was tremendous.

Dunkeld house hotel is bloody lovely and 40 mins away, plus you get to ride Dunkeld.

We stayed in the Leonardo Boutique Huntingtower on Tuesday night after finishing the NC500

Only £60 B&B through hotels.com

Good anti COVID measures in place; huge room and massive comfortable bed

Whilst the centre of Perth is pleasant enough, it is at least miles better than Inverness (centre is a ghost town of empty shops)
