We're looking to get away for a few days mid-June and would like something a step-up from a guest-house.

Walking distance to coast preferred but not a deal breaker if the place is nice.

Ta!

Quite a few years ago I stayed in La Rosa hotel in Whitby.
It's a brilliant place.
All the rooms are themed differently. Very quirky and unforgettable.

I'm not sure as it's a "step-up" but I know someone with a really nice static caravan which is a short walk across the park to the coast, if that's any use.

Not a hotel, but we stayed here for a night last week: https://www.horngarth.co.uk/ Very conveniently located for everything you might want in Whitby and nicely done up. If you go to Whitby I recommend the Magpie Cafe for fish and chips.

In Scarborough there's a nice looking one called the Bike and Boot - https://bikeandboot.com/ which is just up on the top above the Spa bridge on the south bay. Has a dog and bike wash if that's something you might require.

Otherwise the Crown (on top above the spa) or the Crescent (in town but 5 minute walk from the beach) would be the nicer ones. Avoid the Grand.

Bike and Boot was going to be my suggestion. They are building another one between Hope and Bamford.

Bike and Boot would have been my suggestion as well. Bike and dog friendly but you'll have to pay for parking I think. Crown Spa on South Cliff as also mentioned and they have a pool and a gym/spa. Raithwaite Hall just outside Whitby is nice but pricier.

Another vote for La Rosa Hotel. We stayed in the Lewis room earlier this year. Great views of the abbey & cheap parking outside with the permit they give you. The only negative would be the fact that there isn't really anywhere to sit & eat your breakfast so in bed it is.

Ditto Restaurant comes highly recommended too but you need to book up a fair way in advance.

Another vote for bike and boot. Stayed there at new year. Great location. Free cake every afternoon at 4pm. All gone by 4.03. They provide a free parking permit for on street parking and we were able to get a spot right by the front door.

Adding to the La Rosa love in, though it’s great, it’s more shabby chic than high end. Had a weekend in January in the Sacre Coeur room. Views of the abbey from bed. Also enjoyed Filey last month, but that was a cottage.

Cheers folks!

Bike and Boot booked - large double with sea view. We weren't going to take the dog, but the way this place accommodates them it's a no-brainer.

La Rosa looked good in the pics, but a bit too quirky for us. And don't want to be trying to eat breakfast in bed. I can see why it's popular though.

Not the Grand in Scarborough. That was like a bad acid trip.

Stayed at the grand about 3 years ago. Bank holiday Monday. Specials gig at the spa. Cheapest room in town was the grand. Can see why. Even the seagulls turn it down.

It's sad to see what a shambles The Grand has become. With it's size, architecure and location it should be something special.

I've a feeling it's now one of those places people stay at for a night just so they can say how shite it was!
