Hi, any recommendations,
going to Glasgow from the sarf and can stop off somewhere, on the way up overnight, good food, good accommodation, good views etc etc, not too far from m6 or a74. We’ve done Lancaster, Ravenstonedale,
cheers
The hotel and restaurant at tebay services are surprisingly very good
Yes - I also think Tebay is the best on the M6 north.
Tebay is ace. Might be something at Moffat. Nice wee town and 80 miles further on.
Tebay or somewhere in Penrith
Tebay or somewhere in Penrith
Maybe a bit too far North, but the Cressfield Hotel at Ecclefechan is good for food and accommodation. 2 minutes off jn. 20 of the M74.
This looks good 😊
Samling Hotel.
Is Carlisle area too far up? Crown Hotel Weatherall would fit the bill for me.
Updated fyi. Used westmoreland at tebay and the George and dragon, would deffo use tebay again. Slightly better food, better room (larger, more practical, curtains that actually worked, could sleep with window open without being woken by nearby road traffic) , better inside space, much better outside space and views and a bit cheaper and a local shop…
Food in the Buccleuch Arms Hotel in Moffat is great. Moffat itself is a pretty little town with a bit going in and surrounded by hills. There are a few other nice eateries there too if the Bucc's full.
Moffat's only an hour up the motorway from Glasgow.
Haven't stayed, only eaten but the Boot & Shoe at Greystoke was great for an evening meal a few years ago. Not far off the M6 by Penrith.
A little bit off the motorway (but not really, it's only a short shank along the B road back to the motorway from Annan) is Del Amitri at Powfoot. Again, haven't stayed (I'm only in Dumfries) but head chef/co owner Martin is proper top tier. They used to run the restaurant in Annan before taking over this place and it was superb. It's right on the waterfront/beach.
Black Bull in Sedbergh.
Or nearer the motorway : Plough Inn at Lupton
