Got cash burning a hole for a new training frame and a few bits, really really want to buy now.
Thing is I get a bonus end of March which is nice. But it could be a few hundred or several thousands.
So the full custom Mercian is saved on the computer, but getting ready to hit buy on the special offer last seasons Kinesis.
What's a man to do?

Buy the cheapest.

Roadbikes are all the same anyway, so you might as well save a few quid.

So you're saving up for a 13 course tasting menu at the Fat Duck but you're getting a bit peckish and fancy a kebab in the meantime?

If the range of bonus is between a few hundred and several thousand pounds it's always the a few hundred that you end up with.

Put yer cash away and ride what you have in the remaining Winter grunge.

Then in March you'll be in a much better position knowing how much you've got, and invariably what else is out there.

I would wait and see. If you don't get enough bonus the Kinesis can still happen. A suitably large bonus could see both bikes arriving.

Wonderful turn of phrase from rusty.

I used to pop into Mercian every 6 months or so. They never, ever spoke to me until I had turned 40. It was uncanny!

Looks like an old friend is going to build it. Filet brazed Columbus, straight steel forks, normal brazings, duck egg blue and bright orange al la Gulf Oil cars.

You could post up the link to the Kinesis for a start.

Keep us drooling with some pictures 🙂

Dug my old Terry Dolan built Cougar (Reynolds 653) track bike out the other day, pumped the tyres up & took it for a quick spin. I forgot how well it rides on a surface it wasn't designed for.

The Kinesis would have been a basic alloy one i.e if I had little cash.
Going to see the tubes soon, tbh I only want a riding bike nothing fancy. I want threaded BB and normal Ahead.
Whilst there are a lot of custom builders out there, their work does seem to cost a fair bit.
I just want an honest steel frame that takes modern kit, no jeweled headbadge or engraved lugs and i don't want to pay 2k for some welded up pipe.

Think of the bonus as £0
Don't make plans for it or relay on it.
As they could move the goal or find a way of screwing you out of it (happened to me last year)
And then also if you get one and its low you won't be disappointed. Also don't forget the tax man takes his cut
