So my nexus 7 had a close encounter with a tiled floor last week and despite being in a case came off worse. Nice star shaped cracking at the bottom of the screen and although away from the crack the touchscreen works it doesn't at all near it.
So I need it replacing. Any recommendations on where to send it? I'm reluctant to do myself as I tried this before with a smartphone and it didn't work.
Cheers
Si

Bump! There must be someone else who's done this. Or maybe it's just me ...

I replaced a broken outer screen on an S3 I can't imagine it's that difficult to do a N7. It's a slow process of heating the glue with a hairdryer and carefully prizing it away from the digitizer.

Have a look on eBay. I got the replacement outer screen for $20 from HK. Assuming the digitizer is all working it's do-able.

Bear in mind with the 2013 N7 out you might be able to pick up an old N7 for under a hundred quid though. Are gadgets covered on your house policy for accidental damage?

I cracked mine, and most of the screen didn't work due to position of crack.
I used a USB adaptor to plug in a mouse so I could unlock it to remove files I wanted to, and to reset it to factory default.
Then I sold it for £50 on ebay (3 months ago) - it seemed to me likely to cost £50 for screen & digitizer, so I decided in my case it wasn't financially worth the risk of breaking it completely whilst trying to repair.
Now the new one is out, if you only need the screen it may be worth it but if not, probably worth just selling on as well.

There's a place in Redditch that replaces glass screens on smartphones, tablets etc for £30, don't know if you are anywhere near there.

I got a new screen for my HTC Sensation from Amazon for £15. It was easy to replace. I should think that the Nexus 7 would be easier as it is bigger so there will be less need for them to cram the electrical connections in as small a space as possible.
