I dropped my Nexus 4 earlier and after a quick look it seemed I got away with just a couple of tiny chips on the screen edges, but now I've realised that there is a section of screen that does not respond to touch, horizontal swipe is OK but vertical is affected and tap doesn't work in this area. Luckily my screen lock pattern is outside the area!

Looks fairly simple to replace but it seems I have a choice of £30 chinese fake screen/digitiser, or £80 genuine (or expensive fake), or £120 for a Moto G. So, my gut feeling is just go for the fake, (apparently they are just as good as the original) £80 for the supposedly genuine is too much, so the other option is a Moto G.

Has anyone fitted one of the cheap replacements? Good or bad?

Thanks 🙂

You wont notice a difference (unless you drop it in which case it will likely break again)

I've changed the screen on my nexus 4 three times now (actually on 3 different phones!). It's pretty easy, the only fiddly bit is removing the old screen and re-sticking the new screen.

I just bought the cheapest screens I could find on eBay and they've been fine. Make sure you buy both the digitiser and lcd together. You might also get the tools bundled in too if you hunt around. I paid about £30 from memory.

This site is pretty handy...
https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Nexus_4#guideList

And there are loads of how to guides on YouTube

Here's one with the screen and digitiser together

And here's one with the frame too which I would say is well worth it, saves faffing about with glue
