Anyone with a newish Skoda noticed a change in behaviour of the infotainment/electrics recently?

Our Octavia had started behaving like a right be bellend. It auto locks the doors all the time, then the keyless entry doesn't work. Can't open the boot unless the whole car is unlocked. Mrs Kennerley got locked out of the car whilst on the school run the other day, keys inside.

It didn't behave like this up until recently, I don't think it's key/battery related because we each have our own key.

A friend I know with a Superb says his is dicking about more, calling the SOS function randomly!

Sounds like a car battery problem to me.

2011 superb here and the boot has been randomly unopenable, the petrol flap unopenable without a knife, and the panic locking button broken, for years now.

20 plate octavia and it is a pile of shit.

Columbus infotainment system is awful, randomly shuts itself down, error messages every time I drove the car, sometimes the thing won't turn on for an hour or so (loading settings error)

Dealer is shit, all they can say is that I have the latest updates and there is nothing they can do, deapiteme pointing out the numerous posts on the internet about this shit system.

They asked me to video the errors when they happen - I did ask them to put it in writing that they were advising me to use my mobile to film whilst driving but they declined.

I've had a few skodas over the years, but this has ****ed them for me. Absolute shit. Never, ever again.

21 plate Octavia here, bought nearly new. I'd had quite a few issues with the infotainment system, including the screen randomly going completely blank or repeatedly resetting during a journey. Had the car serviced a month or so ago and mentioned this.  They did a complete format and reset of the infotainment unit and fingers crossed, it's been fine ever since.

Skoda "infotainment" system is universally shite. Compounded by the fact that the dealers know nothing about it either. The screens are way too complicated/cluttered. Took Skoda 6 months to sort out an issue with Mrs OS' Kamiq whereby the profile wouldn't load and could not be reset and gave an error that you had to acknowledge, every time the car was started. Utter garbage - well compared to the sleek and refined Volvo system in my car anyway.

My 69 Superb hasn't been too bad. We've got 20 or so 22 plate octavias in the work fleet now and they've been universally terrible. Constantly in and out of the dealership for electronic gremlins to do with parking sensors, wipers, cruise control, locking etc. All seem to be linked to the infotainment unit.

The service manager at my local dealership basically said the software is crap and every time they bring out an update to fix an issue, it causes another issue elsewhere and the only thing to do is go along with the frequent updates and put up with it.

Mines due to go back in December in favour of an octavia that I don't want. Not looking forward to it in the slightest given how troublesome they been.

@sargey the car will no doubt be lovely, my Octavia is (it's the iv PHEV.) But yes, the infotainment thing takes some putting up with!

Question for those that know - how similar is this infotainment (Christ what a sh!t word) to that in a VW (a 2-3 yr old one.)

surely its a feature rather than a fault with VW Group cars

New Kodiac, loading profiles was an arse but it seems to have settled.  One of the OPs points about auto locking the doors, do you mean whilst driving?  My dealer suggested that our car will autolock as soon as its >5mph.  We hear it every time we pull away.  Never thought to question that.

Our Volvo had issues as well to be fair, 19 plate xc60.  I guess some systems work well but I've yet t oexperience a perfect one.  Much prefer the old style buttons for everything approach!

There have been a lot of reports of the newer infotainment units losing the plot. I got a Scala this year, what clinched it was it had the older infotainment unit I had in my Octavia from last time around.

Contact your dealership, will be a warranty job.

This is worrying...my new lease car is arriving next July...will that be long enough for them to have fixed the issues?

I have a 2023 (72) Octavia VRS diesel estate and the Mrs has a 23 Scala Monte Carlo. My Octavia has been pretty much faultless over the 30k it has had on it since getting it the last day of Jan. The Scala has been appalling and is booked in again for infotainment issues. It failed with 10 miles on the clock, then again with 4k.

Neighbour has a 70 plate Golf R and it has also been very problematic for infotainment issues.

No, I'm happy with it doing that.

It just randomly locks itself, sometime's shortly after I've got out. Sometimes a bit longer if I've left it a while. Yesterday morning I was putting stuff in it ready for the day out, went back up and grabbed a few bits that needed to go in the boot, locks itself as I get there. Key is in my pocket, it has the "wave your foot under the bumper" thing to open the boot. Wouldn't work. Dropped everything and pressed the boot latch, nothing. Had to unlock with the key.

Every morning I open the passenger door so my daughter can get in, shut it, walk round the other side, open the drivers door, it locks whilst the door is open. Have to get the key out and manually unlock to enable the ignition.

Like I said, it locked the keys in the car for my wife the other morning, shouldn't be able to do that!

It's a first world problem for sure, but it never used to do this until a few weeks ago. I was wondering if there's been an update rolled out that's made it worse.

@pacemaker75

The Monte Carlo has the newer infotainment and virtual dash, I think. We opted for the SE which has the older version/physical dials.

<p>Be very careful when contacting Skoda for warranty issues; ensure you get them to log exactly when you reported an issue and then get them to verify this.</p><p>We have an 18 plate Karoq that developed two issues:</p><p>1) drive away locking malfunction. - constantly lock & unlocks itself if driving below 15mph</p><p>2) rear hatch motorised gas strut - rear hatch unlocked but wouldn’t open on the motor.</p><p>both problems were reported within the warranty period but they couldn’t fit us in for diagnostics. They said they would look at it at the next scheduled service. However, they couldn’t fit us in until a month after the warranty ended. I thought there would be no problem as I’d reported the issues prior to this. They didn’t log the report so denied all knowledge of this. A classic case of “computer says no”</p><p>This is so frustrating - we’ve had 3 new cars & one demonstrator from Rainworth Skoda and have always been treated very well until this.</p><p>Don’t know where I’m going with this other than venting my spleen, so as always “caveat emptor” 🤷‍♂️</p>

I've an 21 plate Octavia IV and the infotainment system is a crock of sh!t. Turns off all the time. Been in umpteen times and still isn't right.

A colleague had even more problems. Going into limp mode on the motorway and system shutting down. She eventually had hers taken back.

Wouldnt chose one myself now and don't believe they are making the iv Octavia any more. Wonder why.... 🤔

Might not be relevant, but I had similar locking itself-type issues with my VW and it turned out to be a faulty front door lock. Once that was replaced the issues went away.

We’re on our second kodiaq and they’ve both been fine. No issues at all latest is just coming up 3 yrs old in nov. I’d get another one.

I'd pop in on a Saturday morning when folk are looking at their shiny showroom models and start complaining audibly about how they treat loyal customers until you get somewhere.

There are a few bugs in the Skoda (Octavia is what I researched but, it will be the same in others, just possibly different firmware) system relating to the head unit restarting when starting the car. Mine did it, and I updated the firmware as per the below. (Takes a bit of reading)

https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/506295-infotainment-system-restarting-endlessly/

Although it says it many times in the thread, use this at your own risk and do not let the update close half way through, or it will very likely brick the system.

My 2023 Octavia is now on 1941 and has behaved itself since.

Not had the problems that the OP had though, that sounds very much like a dealer trip.

It didn’t behave like this up until recently, I don’t think it’s key/battery related because we each have our own key.

If keyless then it seems likely that it could be the keys going flat - they're permanently energised, albeit low power, so if manufactured at the same time will start to die at the same time. Having said that the car should warn you if the batteries are going flat.

Do you have a 12v to USB charger fitted in the car? These are notorious for electronic interference on all frequencies.

Same on my 21 Octavia. Loads of issues before a system reset and installation of ver 1941 by the dealer. Pretty much faultless since 😬🤞

69 plate Kodiaq SE-L here, had it since January , no problems. Before that I had an 18 plate Karoq SE-L for 2 years, again no problems.

@richardkennerley

The problem you've got is a known issue on the Karoq, it's a fault with the door lock. Replacements are about £300 each but should be covered by the warranty.

I didn't even know I had a problem with the [passenger] front doorlock  on my Karoq (2020) but it was identified as a problem at a service and replaced under warranty. I've had a few little niggles, a problem with the 'SOS ' / warning system kicking in randomly - that looks like quite a few people had that problem but think a software update resolved. Odd 'pumping sound' appears to be resolved as some seal in the gearbox (so I'm told) but some suspension knocking persists. There's been enough 'small' problems to encourage me to pay £35 pm for years 3 to 5 for servicing (x2), mot (x2),  breakdown / recovery and most importantly ongoing warranty cover - feels almost like good value.

2018 Superb from new. No infotainment issues at all. Other than routine servicing tyres and brake pads etc only one issue. Rattling brake pads. Known issue sorted under warranty.

I did get locked out once when the car auto locked. I think there is an option in settings to turn auto lock off. In any case it happened at home so I had a spare key. I have since trained myself that any car I'm driving I don't get out without the key in my possession. Once bitten twice shy.

Same for my Kodiaq.

But no issues since and the Karoq before it was good too.

Lots of updates but they work in weird ways.

funnily enough Kramer (1st reply) my issues have only started in the last two months (22plate Kamiq MC) and the battery is the likely culprit.  I was away for a week and the guys at edinburgh airpoirt had to jump start it to get it to the pickup point, and i had to jump it twice in the next week.  since then, infotainmenmt is playing silly buggers - no issues previous.

first available service slot is 21 december so i'll have to live with it till then.

Timely question . I have a 2019 Kodiaq which has done 84000 is miles. It’s a lease car and due a change in January. <br />It’s been faultless ( unlike dealers Heritage Skoda, they are utterly appalling ) , except that in the last month I have had issues with infotainment not automatically switching off when switching ignition off and opening drivers door and ‘freezing’ occasionally when searching radio stations.

As mentioned above, ours was reported during its warranty but it wasn’t recorded by the garage on their computer system.

I absolutely resent paying £300 for a lock + Labour for the repair of a known issue, which was reported to them.  To echo the above, Skoda can now go **** themselves if their dealer network can’t look after their customers.

Edit: So you can imagine how thrilled I was when this week it was in for its annual service (service plan) & they rang to tell us the windscreen wipers need replacing (funnily enough they always do), and that one of the front tyres was illegal because metal cord was showing through. On inspection the tyres have plenty of tread before they even get down to the wear indicators. The reason they gave for the wipers needing replacing is that they’re “a bit noisy”.

Rant time: Every single year I get a phone call when the car is in for service telling me it needs some such extra… Ford once called and spent 10 minutes telling me about how Ford Focus wear their rear brake disks quickly & how ours were below the recommended wear limit… they were brand new 1 week previous. The only dealership I haven’t had this kind of issue with was Volvo.

It took Rainworth Skoda many weeks to access the software update from Skoda HQ to resolve the sat nav issues with the wife’s work Karoq, electronics don’t seem to be their strong point do they?

We've not been locked out of the car since the initial incident, but it regularly locks itself when I get in the car and I have to manually unlock by pressing the key so I can turn the ignition on.

The saved radio stations are a right mess as well, it will say radio 2 for example, but show the logo for capital FM, or some other random combination. The selection of favourites is entirely random it seems and changes all the time, mixing the label and the logo when it feels like it!

The "departure planner" has also gone to shit. Supposed to warm the interior up for the same time every morning, what it actually does is entirely random. Sometimes nothing at all, sometimes does it to the set temperature, sometimes includes the heated seats. Sometimes includes the steering wheel. But sometimes nothing. It's the inconsistency that gets me.

21-plate VRS, occasional SOS Emergency Assist activations for no reason

Occasional limp mode for no apparent reason

Stop, switch off, get out, lock car, resets everything

Info screen pops up that an update is available and then won't update because you're driving, but doesn't appear when you're not driving. Grrr!
