Lordswood? There is a group on here who go night riding there. Otherwise QEP.
South Downs Way end-to-end non-stop is a fairly usual way for MTBers to get back into things. If you really get in to it, you can go for the double*.

Think I'll pass on the sdw non stop lol ... Didn't know about lords wood so might have a look at that cheers !! I've been told that qep is a killer for those who aren't fit thinking about checking out Southampton bike park anyone ridden there ??
QEP is chalk based so be careful. The instigator of the Southampton Bike Park is from this Parish namely WorldClassAccident. Have you seen the Hampshire thread:

Loads of useful info including routes and areas.
Thanks cinnamon girl will check it out .. First actual days riding in 12 years on Sunday ... Let's just hope I make it out the car park lol !!! What's swinley like beginner friendly ?
freekyeyes - you'll have a blast and wonder why you stayed away so long! Yes, Swinley is beginner friendly where you can start off on the blue trail. The red joins it part of the way round for a loop then spits you back out on the blue. Not been for years so things may have changed!
Car parking is a nightmare and you'll need to bring change.
