Am going to New York in Nov.
Anyone got any bright ideas of places to stay? Would like to be central(ish) and preferably have some kind of lift (but not essential). Am taking wife and small child (under 2). Staying 6 nights.
Have looked at:
Apartments - very small, but better value, cool locations, food prep areas
Hotels - some smart hotels and famous ones, but lots of cash
B&Bs - would prefer to have some privacy
Any other ideas?
Have you tried air bnb?
They are bang into it in NY.
Also look at the Standard Hotel, super cool location, right on the Highline. Loads to do downtown.
The most amazing views from the roof top bar.
Not sure how pricey I'm afraid.

too much choice in NY. for this i would engage a travel agent. give them your stipulations and budget, let them spend their time trawling through the millions of options. i use a friendly local place rather than a holiday hypermarket type place. i just got a call last time 'oooh think ive found the perfect place...' you dont even have to buy off them if you dont want
My choice: AirBnB in or near Greenwich/West village (there are few hotels in that area). I can't wait to get back there again. There's been other threads on here about NYC that you might want to check.
The Travel Inns in New York are really nice places and on the cheaper end of the scale.
