What are you hoping to achieve this year. Record it here for all to see and then we can revive this thread in December 2024 and cheer you on your successes.
So what is your
A) Minimum Hope
B) Achievable Ambition
C) Dream scenario
A) Minimum Hope

A) To be more accepting / less miserable about work & life and therefore be more pleasant to be around
B) Get back to a reasonable level of (regional) fitness & competitiveness on the bike
C) To find a paid vocation I really enjoy getting out of bed for.
My ambition is for not getting multiple threads about the same thing 😉

a. Minimum - adjust work to manage burnout
b. Achieveable - change job to something thats not kiling me, maybe even something i enjoy
c. Dream Scenario - retire (lottery win)
so its just work and money.
Minimum. To see the end of 2024.
Achievable. To see the end of 2024 as a physically and emotionally better person.
Dream. Lottery win. Retire. Move to The Lakes. Ride more. (but more realistically, for both the previous things to happen for both me and everyone around me).
A - get on top of my finances so that I’m replenishing my rainy day account.
B - aim to ride at least once a week on top of my commute.
C - finish my app and release it on the App Store.
minimum - being a year older being the worst thing about the year
Achievable - get a roof on the third part of the extension I'm building
Dream - life as good as last year.
A: Minimum, complete my MSc
B: Achievable, improve my trad climbing grade.
C: Dream, ace my MSc and secure a new career (feels a long way away currently)
A) Minimum Hope
B) Achievable Ambition
C) Dream scenario
A) Keep on riding/ keep on reffing rugby unaffected by AF
B) Some longer, harder rides without electrical assistance
c) An ablation or something (seeing doc next week) meaning no more AF, so I can confidently ride with other people again.
A) Minimum Hope...
My knee and wrist pain and CFS doesn't get worse
B) Achievable Ambition...
Lose a shit ton of weight; my prime focus
C) Dream scenario...
Lose the weight, get better pain management, enjoy a decent holiday for the family, manage a small bike packing trip/tour.
A sad ambition is to live longer than my Dad did, died just before his 54th birthday peripheral arterial disease and all the horrible stuff that went with that; I've 3 months to go so 🤞
Minimum: Energy levels to improve, or at least, not get any worse
Achievable: Be quicker to laugh. If I'm going to be stuck with Long COVID for the forseeable, I want to find joy in other places, and not drag others down
Dream: Be able to do over 8000 steps a day, and for my dad to survive the year
A) Minimum Hope - Improve Health, drink less, move more, eat less, start swimming, ride more frequently (little and often) to help with knee issues
B) Achievable Ambition - Lose 3 stone to get back down to 17/18st, be focused with family finances, waste less to spend more where it's worth it.
C) Dream scenario - Get a decent nest egg together to pave the way for moving into a new house, lose 4 stone and no longer need to take medication for high blood pressure, get a promotion at work for CIO position, new bike, quit vaping, bonus if we can manage to get 30k together for a deposit on a new house.
A. Get diagnosis for condition I suspect I’ve had my entire life.
B. Get above fixed.
C. Above is fixed and has a similar effect to the drugs in ‘limitless’
I'll play:
A) To still be alive and mobile (Stage 4 cancer, so that isn't a given!)
B) To have regained then maintained fitness (aiming to be active 5 out of 7 days... cycle, walk, strength, mobility)
C) To have cycled LEJOG off-road. Maybe some other long rotes too 🙂
