I need to knock up a couple of frames for rotting windows and also replace a rotten doorstep in a garden cabin. I presumed I'd want to use a type of hardwood but I'm struggling to find anything in the usual places (Wickes etc). Anyone have any ideas? Didn't really want to use softwood as I'm assuming it'll just rot again, but am I barking up the wrong tree? Anyone have any ideas? Many thanks.
Decent joinery quality redwood would be adequate for the window frames and I always use sapele for door and window cills. As long as the softwood is primed and painted it should be fine for a few years before needing any attention.
Easiest to get hold off will be Sapele from any local timbers merchant, they will also most definitely have it machined up into cill shape
