Been pondering for a while and pulled the trigger. I like - although the Mrs is rather underwhelmed, stating it doesn't look worth the money. Trying to explain that £280 for a watch is not much, is like trying to justify £4k on a pushbike

Wheras, she thinks that the other watch I'd considered for a similar price looks 'worth a lot more'. Functionally, I suppose it is - solar, atomic time etc

Cool watch. Less sure about your pet rock collection.

You made the right choice. Simple and stylish versus so many different dials you can hardly see what time it is.

What is the point of that Citizen one?

Edit - They've even spelled Tacky wrong on the bezel. 😉

The one at the front is the nut of the clag bush, the others are fossilised testicles

Atomic time? Whassatallabowden?

Exactly my school of thought.

You made the right choice, that eco drive monstrosity is confusing to view, my yobokies seiko is rather bashed up and as it cost £200ish i was looking at this cheap replacement, Rolex Submariner Black, I've always liked the plain look of the submariner but i'd never buy a real one, £5k on a bike? - no bother, £5k on a watch - EEK! 😯

Correct choice. Date position irks me but otherwise looks lovely.

I've been looking for a watch for AAAAAGES after seeing that Damasko I can't justify buying. Along the way I've stumbled upon Steinhart watches. They do a very nice Submariner homage here, and across the various forums I don't think I've ever seen a bad word written about Steinhart. I think I'm going to go for one of their fleiger watches instead of the Damasko - 400 Euros vs 2000 Euros is a bit of a no-brainer.

Nice, but the date is in the wrong place.

Do you always have such big nuts?

No and it's quite heavy, but....

The Inox watch is said to echo the robustness and reliability of its Swiss Army knives, and has been put through 130 tests of endurance, including 30 that were specifically designed to prove that the timepiece is built to last. The timepiece will happily cope with a drop from 10 m (33 ft) onto a concrete surface, can survive a 64-ton Swiss Army tank rolling over it (though the wearer is unlikely to) and brush off two hours in a washing machine, or a similar time in a sandstorm.

It should stay watertight to a depth of 200 m (660 ft), continue to operate in temperatures ranging from -51 °C to +71°C (-60 to 160 °F), and be good for 12G of acceleration or deceleration. It's also been tortured with corrosive chemicals like gasoline, solvent oils, cleaning products and insecticides.

A 43 mm (1.7 in) solid steel machined case that's been sculpted and polished to catch the light houses a Swiss-made Ronda 715 quartz movement. There's a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, under which sits a sealed single piece dial with stamped indexes with military time markers in red on the flange. The famous Victorinox cross and shield is positioned at 12 o'clock, and the date window is situated between 4 and 5 o'clock markers.

Victorinox has reinforced the axis and the attachment of the luminescent hour and minute hands, protected the horns against warping, and solidified the crossbar. The crown is protected by a slightly elevated bezel, as is the crystal. The watch is further strengthened with a removable protective cover made of nylon and silicone

I can't believe that fauxlex it's nasty, £160 for a fake watch no thanks,
I know a real one is expensive but it's an investment, the prices for second hand watches constantly increase.

Another thumbs-up for Steinhart here. I bought their mil-sub style diver earlier in the year (the Ocean One Vintage Military) and then happened upon a super-priced BIN on late night ebay (the wine-powered one where things are easier to buy) and bought an Ocean One Black - which is currently keeping to around -1 second a day...

I bought my wife one of these recently, to wear when she was doing army stuff rather than risk damaging one of her other watches.

Ended up buying one myself as they're cheap, very clear and pretty rugged although I need to get a Royal Navy version of the strap instead of the nasty army green one.

That was a dangerous thing to do, linking to that Steinhart site!
I'm now in a state of lust over the bronze military: http://www.steinhar****ches.de/en/-TRITON-Military-Bronze,854.html
Great case material, patinates beautifully, and is very tough, which is why it was extensively used on naval vessels.
And a lot cheaper than the Seiko Tuna I was considering.

The problem (for me) with Rolex is that people are always asking if it's real or a replica. They are something you will lose very little, if anything on if it's looked after.

S'nice!

Never been a big fan of watches, but bought self a simple Citizen Eco Drive - long story but local jeweller wouldn't refund my wife's watch (would only give me credit as he didn't stock the one she preferred) so we ended up with one each from two different shops. Still going strong after 11 years and no distracting stuff, I wound up (!) liking it a lot and it's taken some abuse.

Thats a lovely watch. Date position is perfect. My only niggle is I like traditional watches with numbers on. Or 12 3 6 9 at least. Just a personal thing though.

I have been lusting after Schofield watches for quite a while now. Still found nothing I like better yet. Very understated but beautifully conceived and they have a titanium option! If I knew how to link to their site I would.
