This missing submersible thing has brought to light a new unit of measurement.
1 Connecticut = 0.625451826 Wales
Or 32,498,105.67 Olympic size swimming pools
Is that swimming pools by area or volume? Just need to get my conversion spot on to avoid a(nother) satellite crash
How many rainforests is that then? Or Wembley Stadiums?
How many double decker buses, parked end-to-end does it take to make a Connecticut?

Area.
You can get the volume by multiplying it by Eiffel Towers. They are 11.51515151 Eiffel Towers down.
As this is North America, they may be using their own units.
1 Effel Tower = 0.866141732 Empire State Buildings.
How many rainforests is that then?
That's a difficult question as we lose 30 central parks of rainforest a day so the only way I can answer is "about one football field more than it was when you asked the question"
How many double decker buses, parked end-to-end does it take to make a Connecticut?
I could work this out, but quite frankly I can't be arsed.

More likely they use imperial towers which are 0.776 eiffels
1 Connecticut = 0.625451826 Wales

A Connecticut is a unit of area (same as wales). You can't use Wales as a unit of area for Americans, as they get confused with Whales. Swimming pools are volume and double decker busses are either length (no need to be double then!) or height.
either length (no need to be double then!)
Other buses may be shorter or longer so the height is important for determining length.

I use the McCup or Costa****Cup as units of measurement. They are both roughly the same distance.
The unit is based on the mathematics; 1scroat X 1beverage + lack of CivicPride = McCup or Costa****Cup distance from their premises.
Saw this one last week. I have no idea how big Ariana Grande is.

The scientific and world of media are getting in a bit of a mess with relatable measurements. Forget A.I., this is the world’s next big problem. The overused “so big it can be seen from space” is now redundant- although it’s been used for recent wildfires. My two small terrier’s can be seen from space if they’re in the garden when googlesat goes over so where does that leave the human race and our concept of size?
To give some context - two Jack Russell’s = one labrador.
I have no idea how big Ariana Grande is.
Looking at the photo she's a small alligator tall if that helps.
Helpfully though Megan thee stallion is actually about the size of a reasonably tall horse.
Anyone remember when the Kylie was a unit of length? at least it's imaginable.
How many square Kylies to a Connecticut anyone?
Anyone remember when the Kylie was a unit of length? at least it’s imaginable.
I think my wife would be displeased with my imagining laying Kylie down multiple times...

I read that initially as Jack Whitehall, for some reason. Several moments of confusion followed.
But how does Labrador compare to Connecticut or Wales?
Me and my cycling buddies have a unit of measurement called a ‘dunning’. Basically dunning is a local 6km climb to us that we are all familiar with, and any climb we do is compared against it, factoring in length and gradient
Ie puig major in Majorca is 14km, at a similar gradient, so is 2.3 on the dunning scale
I have no idea how big Ariana Grande is.
She is 1.006578947 Ronnie Corbetts
When I first started driving my mate came up with a conversion for mph to furlongs per fortnight.
Multiply by 2684 if I remember correctly.
My mate Pete is exactly 1 Wladimir Klitschko tall.
Theres a drop on the San Marino at Rivi called 'the Spaniel' because its the same height as Dave's dog
Disappointed that the elephant unit of measurement hasn't been included in this thread so far.
But how does Labrador compare to Connecticut or Wales?
It's roughly 11 whales, so I assume has the famous appetite and it's been poorly disciplined around food.
How many double decker buses, parked end-to-end does it take to make a Connecticut?
during the time I’ve been waiting- zero. But no doubt it’ll be 3 any moment now.

my favourite is ‘the size of a small elephant’
i remember going to a really old school natural history museum where all the specimens were displayed not by any meanful association but were sorted by size, shape and colour. All very tidy the building has a lovely library-like ordered layout but it lead to some odd juxtapositions- a detailed anatomical model of a flea, a real stuffed armadillo and a scale model of an elephant we’re all displayed as a set because the were the about same size and they’re were grey.
double decker busses are either length (no need to be double then!) or height.
A unit of measurement where the size depends on the direction, truly excellent
Units of area:
- Any small village near where you live
- Any town near where you live
- London
- Yorkshire
- Wales
- Britain
- France
- Texas
- ...
I heard the pressure will be like a polar bear standing on a quarter
🤷♂️😂
I am sure i saw orcas as a unit of measurement recently
The Sydharb is 500 gigalitres… apparently

Sounds like the Pitt Rivers in Oxford.
Standard unit for small increment of sound in our house is a Nubbin. - "Can you turn the TV volume up a Nubbin?"
However, when eating crisps whilst watching a movie the sound needs to be put up higher than a Nubbin. - "Can you turn the TV up to Crisping Volume?"
I used to get confused by mils, 1 mil being a thousandth of an inch (why not just use 'thou') and 0.0254 mm, so a 10 'mil' thick plate could be 10mm thick or 0.254mm thick depending on what you were used to............
See https://www.aqua-calc.com/what-is/length/mil
In order to reduce confusion where I worked, something that was very thin would be referred to as being as thin as a 'gnats cock'. A gnats cock being easily understood as a term of measurement, e.g. "that'll do, its only a gnats cock out"
I heard the pressure will be like a polar bear standing on a quarter
No, you're getting confused with TV adverts for mints.
I opened this thread expecting the new unit to be a metric f%$kton, I seem to be hearing that everywhere at the moment.

An area of tropical forest the size of Switzerland was lost last year as tree losses surged, according to new research...
...Some 11 football pitches of forest were lost every minute in 2022, with Brazil dominating the destruction.
Bingo!
I used to get confused by mils,
Jaysus one mother-in-law is enough, don’t be introducing multiples please!
