Looking at a 32" screen, don't need anything bigger. Just a good looking telly that works well.
What have you got, or what would you get?
Cheers
a secondhand one and some new wheels...

Cheers Barry, went into the Panasonic shop but got confused by young lad who barked numbers at us alot. Nice to have a Which list to look at if we go back.
A nice Aunty is buying us a telly, so no go on the wheels idea, shame though!
Bravia - i flipping loves mine although factory defaults for sound and pics are crap.
I always buy Toshiba and got our 32" from John Lewis with the 'free' 5 year warranty.
if you've not Sky, get one with built-in Freeview.
If you want to spend up to your budget then have a look at led tvs (Not oled, they're still a couple of years away). The picture looks better than normal lcd to my untrained eye.
I was wondering about LEDs, but is it best to get an 'entry level' LED screen or a pretty good LCD screen?
My mates just bought an LED and I've been trawling the shops looking at them. I think the picture is better. Is it worth the difference, depends?
... and how are you getting your HD pictures. Not many teles have built in HD freeview, they are pretty expensive at the moment.
Richer Sounds
I just bought one of these - great picture, some internet stuff (YouTube etc) Freeview HD. A bit over your budget but maybe with the trade-in?
LED screen? Sony have some OLED (Organic LED) screens but these are small and expensive. I think the current run of large screen HDTVs sold as LED mean they have LED-backlighting for their large panel LCD screens. This reduces power consumption over fluorescent backlighting and in some allows regions of the screens to have the LEDs dimmed more than other bits - better contrast control.
I just bought a TV last week and did quite a bit of serching around before buying. Sony Bravia and Panasonic Viera seemed to come out best. I ended up going for a 37" Panasonic and very nice it is too.
Went for HD rather than HD ready and Dixons internet had the best price by almost £100 😯
Good luck with your search
LED'S have a brighter colours/picture due to the technology, however that does not necessarily translate to a better quality picture just different.
I work for SKy and see hundreds of different TV's every week.
Personally you won't go wrong with a Panasonic or Mid Range Sony(some of there cheaper stuff isn't that great)
I think everyone is in agreement here and for what it is worth I got a Panasonic and I am very happy with it.
yep, panasonic all the way. Got an LG 42" for gaming and it was a bit pash. went for the TXl37G10 and its super. 650 with guarantee from richer sounds.
I went through this a month or two ago - spent my time and my money wisely, I think. I agree that Panasonic are good, however I preferred Philips in the end.
I didn't go into a single shop where they had the picture adjusted sensibly - all horrible settings with everything turned up to 11. Brighter is NOT better, neither is sharper better (sharper is grittier, more aggressive and false). Though I say so myself I have my new TV set up pretty damned well now - should anyone else have a Philips set I'd be happy to share my settings.
Really happy with our Bravia KDL32W5500, paid about £500 for it just under 6 months ago.
Features DNLA which enables it to plug into the router giving loads of connectivity options with various devices around the house.
Very handy for stealing stuff off torrent sites and streaming it straight to the telly 8)
One thing I really hate about my Panasonic Viera is the freeview epg. Limited info, annoying, irrelevent ads and doesn't overlay the guide on top of whatever you're watching i.e. no sound/vision when the epg is on.
If I was buying again I'd pay a lot more attention to how usable/likeable the epg is, and wouldn't buy another Panny unless they've changed the epg.
Recently got a Panasonic Viera 32" and very pleased with it. About £600 at the time (now cheaper). That's what I'd go for.
I love the picture on my 2 year old Panasonic plasma, but Gilesey's right about the epg - what's the excuse for one that won't go picture-in-picture or that mutes the sound in this day and age? Mine also doesn't have an optical out, something I only noticed when I hooked it up to some home cinema kit at the weekend.
I like the idea of DLNA built in, I have to stream to the TV via PS3 or Xbox and it'd be good if the TV connected directly to the network. Built in Freesat's probably worth looking at if you can find it in your budget.
I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago, I can't fault it. We got it for £500 from Comet after we traded in our old one.

Is it Comet doing a tenner off your telly per goal England get in the World Cup? That's gotta be worth a gamble on paying their prices even if just to spice up watching the tournament.
Thanks folks, going looking on Friday afternoon, got some more detailed questions to ask now, cheers.

No that's Currys, I think they have to be over £600 too.
More hz is better if you watch football! I hate it on the cheap LCDs when the ball disappears as it's kicked along the line of the crowd!
