I'm trying to set up a new Switch for my daughter (6) to play on Christmas day but I'm not sure about how to register an account for Nintendo.

Do I do it in her name or mine? It says this Nintendo account will be linked to the switch console, once done you won't be able to change the linked account.

Ta.

I did it in my name for our daughter's switch. Also didn't save payment info so games can't be purchased at will.

I set our lads up in my name as it’s mostly used (so far) for things like buying games. Doesn’t stop him having his own profile on the switch that he can use for all his save games.

Yep, did it in my name as my son didn’t have email access at that age. It also let me keep an eye on what games he was getting online with gift cards as I got the email confirmation.

Ah thanks. Kind of confirms my thoughts. The last time I set up a games console it was a Commodore 16.

Probably too late, but if you set up an adult Nintendo account online for yourself, and then add your daughter as a child account in family settings, then you can set play (time) restrictions and so on.  I think it's worth doing for that reason alone.

Er, as opposed to PS5, where I've just realised this morning that you can't override the age rating for a child account, or allow the child to make adhoc requests for some content/games, so the only way to allow a Fortnite install is to set your child up on PSN as an adult account.  Irritating.

Which obviously isn't what you asked about, just trying to show some sort of empathy ahead of Christmas Day. 😉

That’s an awesome point towards creating the account and the kids linked account - thank you!!

I was going to say, out of all of the Big Three I would be shocked if Nintendo didn't have some sort of family/child account system. The last time I had a Nintendo console "family gaming" was their primary focus.

I was just about to ask the same question on the console parents thread. As long as I can stop the kids unwittingly downloading Porn Slicer 4 then we’re golden

Yeah you can, family management > age level for ps5 games > don't restrict.

Both my boys ps5 child accounts will allow fortnite, cod etc.

That's odd, I can't see that.  All I can see is this:
