Having thought my lovely Pure system would be fixed when the lovely people at Pure sent me a replacement speaker, the whole thing appears to have died! 🙁

So, what recommendations please? Would like;
Good sound, obviously
CD (Multi-format ideally)
DAB, of course
Line in of some format for a MP3 player
Ideally able to connect somehow to music on a hard drive
And, finally, I'd like it to look quite nice!
Replacing one of these;
[img] [/img]
Which I think looked a little nicer than the standard three black boxes format.

So, what can you suggest? Budget of up to £1k, I suppose.

Make sure the cables are connected the right way round and the unit is slightly higher than the speakers so the electrical impulses flow down hill......

I've just bought a lovely yamaha separates hifi second hand off ebay for £60. You can add a dab tuner for £100 and conncect a laptop/ ipod with a £5 cable.

Why pay £1k, can you hear the difference? I have an old sanyo psudo separates thing. I can hear a difference if i really, really listen intently. But after 30 seconds it all sound like the music again.

I was tempted by these http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/4885 plus some £50 speakers, but second hand cheappness swung me.

Or these for used to be mega expensiveness

I ended up with something similar to this

Have fun shopping:)

Whatever that little Denon job is called.

Should be able to get it for £400, use the money saved to upgrade the speakers (which are no longer Mission) and you'll still have £450/500 left for other things.

If it were me, I'd give this one a serious look:

Oh and I tried my new stereo with the huge wires, bell wire and 2mm wire.

It made no difference to the sound.

As for directional cable......

As above, I recently got a Denon D-M38DAB without speakers for £200 I think from Amazon. Everywhere I looked and the shops I went to all recommended not to buy it with the Denon speakers. I then managed to get some Monitor Audio speakers for £100 from Sevenoaks. Does all that you require and the sound is great to my possibly uneducated ears for only £300.

Reliable, quality British HiFi. Arcam have always had a good rep (I've heard a few systems and I thought they all sounded very musical) and although Wharfedale speakers haven't been "flavour of the month" for a while now, they were up there in the top division back in the day.

As always, listen before you buy...

Arcam Solo - I'm a huge fan. It just does what it's supposed to; I believe there's a variant with network music capability too.

If I were still in Plimlico I'd even offer a demo of mine. But I'm not, so I won't.

Well, I have a Denon M38 as suggested above. It's good enough, but I'm now going back to Onkyo - the Onkyo 545 to be specific, as the sound quality is significantly better.

I got the Denon M38-DAB with some Q Acoustics 2010i speakers, plus some cable, all in £278 from Hifix. Sound quality is certainly good enough, good DAB reception, plays straight from USB. FIts your spec perfectly I reckon.

I'd definitely recommend one. Was also looking at Onkyo as well, but not disappointed by getting the Denon.

Been out to have a look at the Marantz M-CR603, as mentioned above. Like it a lot. Will be getting one of those, I think. Amazingly, Harrods had it at the same price as Richer Sounds, so it's a no brainer where I'll be buying it!

So, speaker recommendations to go with it?
