So it seems with our new work car scheme the best value for money for me would be a Octavia estate in the plug in hybrid flavour. Probably will work out at around £170 a month inc BIK. I can get the SEL spec which looks quite nice and I think I’ll go for a roof bike solution this time too.

We can get full EVs but they are either tiny cars (tried to go smaller but it doesn’t work for us) or SUVs which we hate with a passion (did try one once for a couple of months as had no choice at the time) and are quite expensive to get anyway for me even with zero BIK as they are expensive to buy up front.

The plug in hybrid will work well for most of my personal and work travel and would probably be like an EV most of the time but have the added advantage of being able to go on longer UK holidays (which we do often) without worrying where I’m going to find a fast DC charger in the wilds of Scotland or Wales.

The Octavia iV is pretty powerful too at 204bhp which is nice, quite nippy even though it’s heavier.

Can't help with what the Octavia is actually like to drive and live with, but had a similar quandary recently and have ended up ordering a Skoda Enyaq as the next company car/family wagon.

The range should be fine for 99% of our journeys, and we're planning on getting a cheaper second car/van for those trips where charging might be a problem.

Current car is a hybrid and in my view they're the worst of both worlds.

I have a PHEV and I think it’s great. So there 😉

My mother in law’s husband has a Passat GTE and he’s very happy with it. Not the same floor plan, I know, but presumably the same engine/motor set up.

I see your point but money is very tight in our household so saving £80 a month (I could get an Enyaq) makes a big difference. I also can’t really afford to install a charger at home at the moment and being as I work standby rotas I can’t risk having a flat battery at the end of the working day and not being able to charge it quickly.
I suppose the choice is easier if we had a second car but I’m selling our other car when I get this new one to save money.

Update - went to have a look at one at nearby dealers and was very pleased. Miles better quality inside than an ID3!!

BTW I am not a SUV fan but if you are thinking of getting a Skoda Enyaq go for it, they look fantastic in real life (for an SUV).
