I love Scotland - it's brilliant people and stunning scenery. However this book does capture a side of Scotland we all see...and don't celebrate..

To be fair, scenery aside, it looks like anywhere north of Watford on a rainy Thursday

Are these supposed to be negative portrayals or something?

I remember there being a major stooshie in the scottish press after one of the guide books (lonely planet I think) described Wick as 'dismal'

The author was interviewed on Radio Scotland and defended the review saying that the word 'dismal' had been taken out of context by the press and the tourist industry.

"so what was the context?"

"Wick never used to be this dismal"
