Looks awful. At least they're not copying the original story but it looks weak. Perversely, Murphy's death scene was one of the highlights of the original. Looks like a car bomb here which is weak

What are they thinking, that's like re-making Citizen Kane, sacrilege.

He knows his family as Robo. WTF?
Looks bloody awful.
I see a lot of big names though.
Also far too much CGI.

Agreed. The original is a stone cold classic that should have been left alone.

decades later I can still reel off the script verbatim.

"can you fly bobby"

"you see I got this problem, cops don't like me.... so I don't like cops'

"Hey clarence a new toy? can I play?" "I LIKE IT" lol

love that film. Go Robo!

Saw a trailer for R I P D

Looks like a better [s]men in black[/s] cop movie than that remake is going to be.

The guy who met the untimely death once the bitches had left is in this one too.

His name escapes me..

The remakes is meant to be more about coping with becoming robo, a bit like robocop 2..

Well they've already ****ed up Total Recall so why not this too? Might as well do Short Circuit, Top Gun, Terminator and Under Siege while they're at it.

The ITV dubbed version without the naughty words has entered into folklore.

"Ladies, leave"

"once I even called him airhead"

Remaking it is senseless, haven't they got any new ideas? Plus as someone said above, they'll just miss the point. Lucky you can buy the original on DVD for roughly a dollar...

Man that should be ace with a cast including :
Gary Oldman
Michael Keaton (yes I like him)
Samuel L. Jackson
it even has Miguel Ferrer in it!

but what a rubbish trailer...

"Are you a college boy? Bet you think you're pretty smart, huh? Think you can outsmart a bullet"

There will be nothing in this remake to match the original. Nothing.

Great, another pointless Hollywood reboot. Robocop needed reimagining in the same way that Stevie Wonder needs a new set of bifocals.

Because it's high quality not High Definition.

so why is it only 360P, that's not high quality - to most folk anyway.

That's exactly what it is or at least to those who know, not sure what the majority think.

R.I.P.D looks great fun.

Jesus, that looks terrible. Could be some interesting stuff about "illusion of free will", but the original was totally different in tone and should have been left alone.

HOWEVER, it gives me the opportunity to post the best youtube video ever.

Murphy spins a handgun on the bonnet of his car, he gets a call at random about Clarence Boddickaaar 😀

I saw the trailer ^ and immediately I thought of the movie 'i robot' (same CGI/company behind it?).

I don't like it. Robocop is an insanely dated and brilliant film.

Dredd should have been remade, robocop shouldn't.

Dredd with Stallone should never be made.
Movie perfection.

The thing is they've approached it from the opposite angle. Whereby in the original it was a machine struggling with his own illusion of (still) being human in this tosh it's a bloke who's had some machine bits bolted to him. Far less interesting dynamic in my opinion.

Looked alright to me, as far as crappy turn off the brain action films go.

You can still see the other one. This is a different one. They haven't copied over the old one.

I do wonder whether Hollywood has run out of ideas though, what with the amount of re-makes/re-hashes over the last 5yrs or so.

It does have Mary Louise Parker in it so automatically gets +1,000,000 bonus points

Absolutely. It's a deeply unsettling film and the black humour, whilst funny, still manages to disturb.

Another bloody pointless remake. So much good about the original Robocop.
One of the very few films I went to the cinema twice to see. (The only other I can remember off hand is Abba: The Movie 😳 )

edit: Samuel L Jackson should be ashamed of himself!

Samuel L Jackson should be ashamed of himself!

Come off it, he has no shame precisely because he doesn't take himself seriously.

So much good about the original Robocop.
One of the all-time sci-fi greats IMO. Very intelligent but also an 80's ultraviolent action classic. Plus a guy gets shot in the balls. So much to love.

Remakes don't bother me really, mostly they're rubbish but occasionally you get a bit of a gem. The rubbish ones are easy to ignore and the originals don't cease to exist. With my Lovefilm subscription, I don't really loose anything by renting bad films occasionally.

Some of these films are OK if you didn't have the original to compare it to. I also forget there are a whole generation of people behind me who have never seen most of the 'originals', which may be why some of those classic films I grew up with are now being remade.

I guess my father thought the same when they remade things like Cape Fear and Scarface.

My biggest problem with remakes (and sequels) is that it's indicative of studios "playing safe" instead of taking a chance on something that could be original/innovative/worthy/etc. Not that a great film needs a big budget, but there are endless stories where even high-profile directors struggle or fail to get films made because they're seen as too big of a risk - yet they are happy to chuck $120M at something like this.

Gary Oldman has openly admitted he only does the big cheesy blockbusters for the paycheck. It allows him to do plenty of low key or independent stuff by doing a big sell out movie every so often.

He should have promptly retired after that film.

nahh. I wish they would make it 18+ but they don't make films like that anymore, unless they're horror.

Dredd should have been remade, robocop shouldn't.

It's a shame Dredd spent all its limited budget on the film instead of the marketing. Great film, didn't get the recognition it deserved.

He was the best thing in True Romance for the 5 minutes he was in it.

It's a shame Dredd spent all its limited budget on the film instead of the marketing.

I think that's why it ended up being a good film rather than a well marketed turkey.

Dredd was good - up until the recent re-make of that the best film about Judge Dredd was Robocop.

In a moment of geekery I just paused the trailer to point out Omni Consumer Products is now Omnicorp.... in the background I spotted a lot of Robocops...

On the plus side, I bet loads of people will watch the original Robocop again now, I'd forgotten how ace it is. Maybe because of the sequels...

It's going to be a pg13, or in other words, absolute bollocks.

Paul Verhoeven must be jumping for joy. First they butcher Total Recall and now Robocop. At least they won't be remaking Showgirls any time soon.
