Canned laughter
Definitely not canned laughter. I was in the audience, a couple hundred of us maybe, and definitely laughing for real on each of the jokes. Though arguably more laughs were to be had with the warm up guy (the Welsh cop guy from Torchwood), and Rob Llewellyn's cracking between take in-character goofing around 😀
Loads keep saying it's canned laughter, but it's probably down to a) assuming it because it's Dave and b) the audio mix for the laugh track being a lot more stereo/surround. Plus they do chop bits up in the laugh tracks I think, fade out stuff, overdo it on others, and I know controversially they'll mix in stuff where a joke wasn't getting the laugh they wanted, but that's how it's worked in shows like this all along I think.
That said they did replay some bits on video, including pre-recorded stuff, plus did extra takes in some cases which got different reactions. Curious I'm sure there were a couple of scenes we didn't get to see live but had laughs in it, but then they did say they might do extra bits on later audience days to fill in gaps.
ep2 tonight is it ?
Yup. 9pm.
Yeah, that was a good one.Rimmer's eyes when his hard disk crashed has been one of the best sight gags of the year.
Really looking forward to tonight's ep!
I thought last week's episode was funny. A Canadian friend of mine was laughing loads and he's never heard of it before (though he had seen "Lister" at Band on the Wall the week before!)
ugh - i didnt laugh much at all at this episode last night... 🙁
I think the pacing was off. Lots of things took too long, the whole 'dad' video thing for a start.
I thought the "Chinese whispers" Chinese whisper thing was inspired though. I do like a good running gag.
I thought it was pretty good, straight out comedy. The 'dad' video bit worked great I thought. Very much like the early days in that it's just the interaction between them really rather than some alien monster plot. But then I always preferred the first few series to V & VI which so many seem to love and I find just repetitive cliches. Have to say with series X the cat is back to the old days also and not just spouting "deader than ..." and looking frustrated because he's getting crap lines all the time.
The laugh track, whilst was generally what the audience laughed at, is perhaps being exagerated however. It's sounding more like a US sitcom than the Red Dwarf of old.
