Wasn’t sure if to post this, but I know there are lots of animal lovers on this forum. We had two labs, Murf who is 11 and still going well and Amber who was nearly three and an absolute joy. Loved by everyone and full of life. In early May she contracted anaemia and after two horrible weeks we had to put her to sleep.
The vets were brilliant and she was a fighter but eventually even the animal hospital in Bristol couldn’t save her. We were devastated. Here is Amber as I like to remember her.

So the very next day I went to Finale for riding. Wasn’t ideal, but then took a call three days later from my wife. She really wanted another lab (even tho we thought it better to wait originally, and one was available from a friend of a friend).
Meet Lola.

She’s 9 weeks and a total hooligan. I’m sure there are many reasons why we should have waited, and yes a rescue dog would have been a kinder choice, but we needed to fill that labrador shaped hole in our lives. Fair to say Murf isn’t bustlingly happy about it, but the rest of us thinks she’s ace.
Bit weird as still grieving Amber, but felt like the right thing to do. Pets eh- they get you right there...
Gorgeous 🙂

Sorry to hear about Amber, Lola looks great.
Welcome, Lola. Sad back story.
Is she a show girl? Or does she have a dark brown voice?
Sorry about Amber but Lola looks fun 🙂

Yeah that was in my head as well. But of all the names we thought of, that was the only one we could agree on as a family.
Losing Amber was horrible. I thought we should wait. But the house felt wrong. I think you have to go with your gut when its that emotional.
Sorry to hear about Amber. Lola looks a lovely beautiful.
Agree with the sentiment; we waited a while after losing our dog, but the hole needed filling. Having been reduced to one cat earlier this year, we’re now planning for moar kitteh. Abhor a Nature vacuum.
Love labs.
My sister and BIL have a 12 month old called 'Chester'. Despite lots of training, walking etc. etc, he got 'expelled' from doggy day care and classes as he was boisterous - what lab isn't at that age.
Love him to bits, but he is a handful. Hopefully moving out of the crazy stage now. The breeder was a bit crap, as he had a really bad stomach problem - fortunately the insurance covered it, but he's on gluten free food now and they have to be careful what they feed him.
Love animals, but we have cats as we aren't in enough (4 of them). An old tortie, a ginger ninja rescue of 2 years, and two pedigree Ragdolls who are 1. It's a riot with the younger 3, but they all leave the old cat alone - she's gone blind recently, then was bitten by a fox, then bashed her mouth badly as she went 'climbing' with poor sight...
ENJOY !!!!
I love a puppy thread.👍
Ahh bless! We are still struggling 2 years on from the loss of our Boxer - Tess. A massive part of our lives ended when she left us suddenly. We adopted a rescue dog, which turned into a disaster compounding the hurt even more. We are now ready for a new puppy, finally. Looking for a Lab and excited at the prospect of having some company during the day! (Work from home) plus the summer walks up our local hill.
Lola looks fab Alex!

This is Esther, our 18 month old rescue lab with Watson our 12 year old basset - rehomed as she was completely hyper - owners couldn't cope even though they ran a doggy daycare - she'd destroy anything in minutes and jumped over everything. Within 2 days she'd calmed down, loves chasing a ball and water.
@dovebiker - that’s great to hear. We did look at rescue dogs and we felt bad for not really committing to it, but we wanted another lab pup.
@russyh - yeah that was our worry. We’ve always had labs and we had a lab shaped hole. I was pretty clear we we’re looking for a duplicate, more a new adventure.
I wrote a thing. It’s full of lots of angry swearing. You have been warned ;). Felt good to write it tho: https://pickled-hedgehog.com/?p=4387
OMG- lovely pooch-pics. Hopefully today's the day that we collect our lovely rescue hound... Home inspection all done- bloody hell, fencing is pricey!
Lola looks great fun 😃🐶
Sorry to hear about Amber, so sad.
Pets are pricey. We went past the insurance ceiling very early. Probably cost us a nice family holiday, but while there was a chance, we never really considered stopping because of the money.
A good mate of mine is going to do a professional framing job when we decide our favourite picture. Starting looking at the 600+ we had yesterday but was a bit too raw.
Lola is not going through the night yet. So that was 4am and 6am getting up, and letting her out for a wee. And then she wants to play. It’s like having kids all over again!
