I've just borked my 2 year old Wileyfox Swift and now it won't charge (damaged USB socket...).

So need a new phone - would prefer something with not too much bloat wear and failry stock Android.

I see that the Motorolla G series always gets good reviews, so not sure if I should stick with Wileyfox and go for the Swift 2x or try the MotoG5.
On the G5 whats the difference with the 'S' and 'S Plus'?

TIA

The boy had a Wiley Fox. Suffered horrible screen burn and the power button died. He now has a Moto G5 plus. It's a much better phone.

I quite like my WileyFox but wouldn't get another, not least because they've gone bust.

The wife has a G5, it's a very good phone for the money.

When did they go bust?

Shame as my Swift has been really good .

Might go Moto then .

I have a G5s it's ok but only marginally better than the G3 I replaced. Little annoyances such as temperamental wifi and Bluetooth. I'm not sure Motorola phones are quite as good since lenova took over.

Look at a Nokia. eg Nokia 6 is quite reasonably priced. Pretty much standard Android, and they are releasing some updates to the latest versions.

Thanks all.

What about the MotoX4?

How does that compare to the G5s?

Is it not possible to fix/replace the USB port?

I'm now on my 3rd one on my Moto G3. Costs about £3 off amazon and takes 2 mins to swap out. It's one of the reasons I'm reluctant to change away from this phone as the usb port is generally a weak point in most phones.

The port is part of the motherboard on a lot of phone. My LG G4 had a replacement board for a different issue. but it also sorted out the loose port!

My original Galaxy note had a changeable port that you could buy for about £3 on eBay.

Lots of phone are going to USB C now. Not sure if that is any more durable??

had the same issue with my original Swift, shame really as it did what i wanted (ie worked!) Sent it back to WF for repair and they returned it saying it cannot be fixed.

Replaced it with a swift 2x and although initially seemed okay, it struggles with connecting to my car, Android Auto will not work at all and it will just reset every now and again and takes an absolute age to reboot.

Did not know they had gone bust so in the same boat. Have an iphone for work and annoyingly it does just work but do not want to spend that much on a phone, £150 would be ideal????

The Moto series is a bit confusing! The 'G' to have is the G5S Plus - it has a bigger screen than the standard S, but more importantly it has a much better CPU.

The Moto X4 is a bit of a stealthy bargain at the moment - it was averagely reviewed when it came out (at £350) but can now be had for £200 from Carphone Warehouse. At that price bracket I don't think there's much to touch it, although it is a slightly smaller screen than the G5S Plus (but a slightly newer CPU).

Also have a look at the Xiaomi A1 - similar spec to the G5S Plus but can be had for less than £150 off eBay. It's also a Google One phone, so completely stock Android with guaranteed updates for a couple of years.

The moto and the wileyfox are both good but as above you should also consider the Mi A1 (global edition).

I've got one and can honestly say it's the best phone I've owned, and I've owned a series of fairly high end androids prior to this.  I paid £180 and was well happy, but for £150 it's absolutely nuts how much bang you get for your buck.

I bought a Xiaomi Mi A1 and it works well. Quick with plenty of storage. Battery seems very good and it gets monthly updates as part of the Android One. Screen is a little thin in the colour department and the camera is not as easy as my old Moto G4Plus to get good results.

My daughter had the standard Moto G5 and it was really good until she dropped it in the bath. I think the Moto G3 was waterproof but the G4 and G5 aren't. The X4 is IP68 and is Android One, laptops direct have returned ones for £169.

I could be wrong but I don't *think* all X4s are Android One - there are different versions, one with the (still pretty unobtrusive) Motorola overlay.

Oh yes, you are right! There is an international version with Motorola's light Android system and another version sporting Android One. I think the UK gets the international version.
