My Sony Xperia has finally expired and I'm needing to replace. I don't swap phones very often and would like something to last. Has anyone experience of the two above. Ideally I'd like the camera to be a good one. Any other suggestions welcome. Oh and its the HTC U11 and the Pixel 2 I was looking at.

Can't comment on the pixel 2 but the mk1 pixel I have is stunning.

Better than I expected it to be actually.

Camera is superb which is one of the main reasons I got it.

Won't be updating anytime soon.

Pixel MK1 here, excellent phone. Probably the purest/untainted android device you can buy, so no shitty 3rd party junkware.

^^ Yep, first to get Google updates and new OS versions too. Which is nice.

Pixel 2 here, I blummin love it.
Many moons ago I had a Nexus 5 and it was great. Unfortuantely after nearly 3 years it snuffed it. I went to a Moto G3, then a G4, and both constantly got on my nerves for various reasons. I wanted to get another phone like the N5 that was stripped back and 'pure' Android, but there was nothing in the N5 price bracket, so I bit the bullet and got a contracted phone and a Pixel 2. Don't regret it.

It's fast, stable, smooth, the screen is great, camera's amazing, fingerprint recognition is pretty much instant, and I've not yet found it wanting.
Only issue I have is it went through a couple of days of randomly turning the volume down, but seems to have stopped this now. But it does seem that may be a warranty job from what I've Googled.

Oh, and the headphone jack thing. That really is a PITA, and the only thing I'd like to change.

I have a 3 year old HTC M9, which has survived lots of abuse (including being launched on to the road at about 40mph), so I'd be inclined to go HTC - except the u11 has that gimmicky "squeeze" feature, which would probably have me erring towards the pixel, especially as it'll get OS updates for at least three years, as opposed to the normal two.

If you listen to music get the HTC. Almost hi-fi. Check out the reviews.
I've got the HTC 10.

The Pixel has the gimmicky squeeze thing too!
Yeah, I meant to say, the support was what really sold it to me. 3 years updates plus the same of free storage.
My wife's Nexus 5x is still getting OS updates. Google are really good at suporting their legacy devices.

I had a HTC One M8S. Out of the box it was fantastic and as above, gives excellent sound quality. However after about 18 months it really started to deteriorate in terms of performance and battery life. My daughter's also did the same. Cautionary note and other experiences may differ.

Got a Pixel 2 at Xmas. It's great - reminds me of the iPhone 4s, just works. Assistant works really well and the camera is excellent. Fingerprint recognition is now a must have and just works.

i still have my 4.5 year old nexus 5, and whilst there's nothing essentially wrong with it, it no longer gets OS updates. i'm looking at picking up either a pixel 2 or a oneplus 5T in the next couple of months...

Pixel is manufactured by HTC.

I love mine. Went for the 128 GB version as you can't add memory cards. Kinda glad I got the gen 1 version, not having a headphone socket would have been disappointing.

Got a pixel 2 recently and it's great. Had a nexus 5x and nexus 5 before that so been a fan of the Google plain android phones for a while then just run so much smoother and faster to compared to other android phones with all the brand associated add ons plus you get plenty of updates.

Pixel 2 here after previously having a fair few HTC's (Desire, OneMini2, M8). Think i'd go pixel with your choice, yes it has the USB3 charger but it's speed charge mode is really useful.

Also you can adjust the level of 'squeeze' needed to activate that function. I just set mine to full Gorilla and havent used it.

My HTC M8 went the same way as Coyote's.

Cheers all, got a deal I'm happy with on the Pixel 2. Ideally I'd have liked the headphone jack but the camera performance and recommendations swung it. The stripped back nature appeals too as the Sony was full of garbage I never used.

Are folks using the 3.5 adaptor or Bluetooth headphones?

64gb phone £42 2yrs with EE 8gb data and unlimited texts. I'd set myself a limit of £50, so happy enough at that. I also get 24 months of BT sport.

the lack of headphone jack port isn't a deal breaker for me, i already use bluetooth headphones with the nexus 5 anyway so don't see it as a big thing.
