Beer pub with good, cheap'ish food ?
Got a few early evening hours to kill on Friday.
Thanks.....
The Sportsman on Strines Rd gets my vote. Good food and a good range of ale. I highly recommend.
Been years since I lived there, but I was a fan of the Fox at Brookbottom. Not sure when their food hours are though.
The Beehive had curry upstairs then too. Any locals on here know if that's still the case?
Apologies if my info is out of date, but I doubt the Fox has changed đŸ™‚
Beehive pub, and chippy near opposite.
In New Miils your options are limited.
Brilliant, thanks for these suggestions, gives me something to go on.
Early 80`s Punk Band Blitz hailed from New Mills
Forget beer, just stand outside the Swizzles Matlow factory and smell the Love Hearts fumes.
Mmm..
the pack horse is on mellor road. Decent food and beer but a bloody awful walk up to it. The road is narrow and unlit
A bit further Out in Thornsett is the sycamore inn.
Our favourite...!! It’s going to be about a 25 minute walk from new mills centre to get there though.
A year or so back we started a ride from New Mills, it was a brutal ride. But called for a pint in the pride of the peaks, it didn't do food bit they let us eat fish and chips from across the road in the pub. Whether it was any good is a matter of opinion, it was ok, fish and chips were pretty good.
Disclaimer: I'd just done about 30 miles around the peaks, I could have drunk anything and eaten anything!

Master Fryer or the Chinese Lucky Tree?
A few hours to kill before #CharForCharlie perchance? We're maybe having to do the same and grab a bite to eat in New Mills.
Beehive is the closest pub to the Art Theatre. Fox Inn is ok for a pint, wouldn't rush to eat there though. Pack Horse (on the road over towards Mellor / Rowarth) does get good feedback, as does the Sycamore (on the back road to Hayfield through Thornsett), but they're both a way out on the other side of New Mills town centre. Sportsman on the Marple Road is usually good but again it's some way out.
Gioia Mia Cafe Bistro in the centre was nice when we ate there.
Master Fryer or the Chinese Lucky Tree?
Master Fryer evey time! Great chippy that one. đŸ™‚
Beehive is the local pub (diagonally opposite the Master Fryer), never had food in there other than packs of crisps or nuts but it's a nice little place.

Good pub, haven't been there for years! (I've got friend who live on the other side of the border near the primary school). Robbie's Old Tom on draught at Christmas and darts till kicking out time. Happy days!
I've messaged The Butterfly House (was once The Torrs pub) at the top of the hill opposite Sainsbury's - licensed cafe to see if they are open on Friday night. They do some evening openings.

I wouldn't even think about walking up Mellor Road to the Pack Horse, you might as well paste a target on your back. No pavement, too narrow, scary.
Best way of getting to it on foot is to take the footpath than drops down into the back of the pub from Castle Edge - just a bit down the road from the start of Zig which can be reached by a slightly less dangerous route.
For a proper pint you'll be wanting The Beer Shed. If you must eat, they do crisps.

Last time I was in there I thought the Robinson's beer was watery pish.
The Butterfly House at the Torrs will be open - doing evening openings to coincide with the events at the Art Theatre is something really really new for them. Basically this would be the first. They were thinking about doing this kind of whatnot when I contacted them.
I can confirm they do really good cake, coffee, local beer, and their food is limited menu but what they do is good. It's a local business trying something new - they would appreciate people booking if you are thinking about it, so they can get an idea of numbers and timings. [url=
House New Mills[/url] It's a huge space.
Do not let the name put you off! It is not that twee or filled with small children dressed as pink fairies. 01663 741836
I second The Butterfly House.
The cuisine is a mixture of Middle Eastern style with English.
Robinsons beer requires a good cellar person to take care of it. Then its great.
Looks good. I was never a fan of the old Torrs. A friend in his 60's got banned from there too over a crisps incident ffs.
