purple laptop? (or red at a push)
I know I know, but this is the only requirement my g/f has for a new laptop.
But then I have to support it so I won't direct her towards 'any old' rubbish, so it needs to be of a decentish spec (250-320GB HDD/4GB ram/Windows 7) with a 15" screen (or smaller) @ around the £500 mark. Have looked at the 13/14" ranges but they are seemingly under powered or the weight difference is negligible (& so pointless).
She was looking at a Dell Mini 10V, but the Intel Atom processor sounds about as useful as a chocolate tea pot, other main option seems to be the Sony Vaio range, but then it starts to get expensive.
So other than the Dell ('Inspiron 15 Intel Core i' range), anyone else sell any 'coloured' laptops?
Also can anyone point me towards a guide for the latest processors, as I haven't been following hardware for a while, and the CPU benchmark on Tom's Hardware guide, is so big I con't locate the processors on it! (that and it seemingly meaningless)
Surely some-one else must had this type of demand from there better half?
Packard Bell Easynote TJ68 - its very red, better spec than the Dell, and that's it really. Mine's been great so far.
Standard black one with a purple sticker on the top? 🙂
I know you asked for "other than Dell", but the Dell outlet is pretty good for this sort of thing:

Click through to Inspiron laptops and you can sort by CPU, OS, colour, etc. The "outlet" bit means they're cheaper than a normal Dell, so for 500 notes you should be able to get one with a decent CPU and enough memory / HD space.
Nope has to be proper coloured laptop no stickers! I'm sure some suppliers used to paint up bare chassis's.
Although you've ruled out stickers, consider something like the ZAGGskins range. It looks like it's fresh from the factory and means that it's "as new" if you ever decide to remove or change the sticker.

I was sceptical to begin with but after seeing one in the flesh was converted.
Acer does the netbook range in coloured cases. They do a red one as well. I bought a 11.6" one for my girlfriend for Christmas, 250GB, 2GB ram, she loves it, but I think it is a a bit slow running Vista, struggles with flash. Should fly on XP. I compared other screen sizes and wouldn't go any lower than 11.6".
You can get a decent spec Acer Ferrari in red, quicker processor than the Atom. BUT I personally wouldn't want a Ferrari logo on my computer 🙂 Something like having Porsche design toaster and trainers but no Porsche 😉
also found this but sold out Purple VAIO :-)
Ticks all the boxes if You can find it somewhere.
[edit] You can configure a Vaio with case colours to choose from on the Sony website, but they are pricey and no purple option, only blue, light blue and dark red that would come close [edit]
Also when I was getting my Samsung R60+ some time ago, red ones were available as well, they still probably do coloured ones. Very good quality laptop and prices are reasonable, somewhere between Acer/Dell and Sony.
