Hi all.

New laptop required! My current 5 year old HP laptop is overheating. The fan is buggered. I need something new but don't really keep up with computers any more. I'm not really looking to spend much more than £300 on a general web surfing, e-mailing, AVI movie wayching

This any good?

Any other suggestions/advice would be great before I pull the trigger!

Cheers,

Stuart

That looks a fair deal to me, half reasonable spec too for the money 🙂

Replace the fan? I did one the other day for someone, replacement part was a few quid on eBay.

is it the fan that buggered, or the vented blocked with dust?
A can of compressed air (or a compressor if your really careful) will blast it clear & resume normal service.

Think the fan is buggered. It's not my laptop either. It's on long term loan from work 😉 but needs to go back in a few months so may as well bite the bullet.

Replacing fans is easy, only hard part is keeping track of dozens of screws.

I'm a big fan of not throwing out perfectly good things that have a minor fault. But if it's work's, then there's not much you can do.

Is it a HDX by the way? I'll pay you money for the rubber feet, if so 🙂

If you have an extra £40 get this version with an i5 3210M instead of Pentium CPU http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_E1-571_1296588.html

Replacing fans is easy

Rather depends on the Laptop.
I used to work on one brand/model that required a full stripdown, motherboard out to get to the fan 🙁
