You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I searched the site for lap top and the results came back with stuff from 2009 at the top so gave up.
I have a budget around £300-350. It's for light browsing duties and occasionally playing Netflix. I suppose I might use it for zwift at some point but not signed up at the moment. I've not bought a laptop in a long time and requirements have changed. I suppose cd drive is no longer needed and storage size not such a big deal with cloud storage these days. I'd like it to last as long as possible so most up to date software and a decent screen. Any thoughts?
Not sure how good the integrated graphics would be for zwift, but your not realistically going to get a laptop with a dedicated graphics chip for your budget.
I'd be looking at something like this https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/refurbished-hp-elitebook-840-g1-ultrabook-14-intel-core-i5-4300u-8gb-180gb-t1-hpe840i58gb180gb1yr/version.asp
Usual recommendation is Lenovo or the Dell Outlet. You'd be hard pressed to find a laptop for £350 that isn't capable of "light browsing."
Make sure 100% it has an SSD instead of a spinning hard drive. Everything else is sliding scale / budget negotiable.
For a proper search type this in Google.

Then click on Tools (probably under the magnifying glass icon) and filter to Past Year, though I think some of the dates are out of whack due to the new forum software.

As suggested above, make sure it has an SSD - it will make a huge difference.
Would probably struggle to get something with an SSD at that budget, at least not without majorly comprising on the CPU/RAM. Anything sub £500 with no specialist use requirement I always just advise going to Currys, John Lewis etc. and having a play - they're all much of a muchness in spec at that price and it mostly comes down to if you like the screen & keyboard (which is what will differ the most between brands). Try and avoid asking the staff for help (at least in Currys). Once you narrow down to a few models just google for reviews on them to make sure there's no widespread issue or shortcoming for that model.
The one I linked to above is i5, 8gb ram and SSD for £350.
It's an older generation i5 but it really doesn't matter for its intended usage.
