Wonderful short (16min) Guardian documentary about Joss Naylor.  It focuses on his incredible (still standing) 1971 three peaks record.  There isn't time to cover all his other incredible achievements.  The most impactful for me was the Welsh 3000s, as I managed it in just under 24 hours 6 or 7 years ago.  He did it in an almost unbelievable 4 hours and 46 minutes.  Such a remarkable, humble man.  RIP.

It's still bonkers fast but the time for the Welsh 3000ers is taken first peak to last peak. Might make you feel a bit better! 🙂

Cheers for flagging up the vid.

Funnily enough I just watched that this morning, what an amazing man and a lovely start to my day.

I was just trying to imagine trying to recover while being transported between the 3 peaks in a ‘rally-prepped Ford Escort’, hammering around those windy 70’s roads. I can’t see it being ideal for reducing Joss’s HR.

A good watch. Thanks.

I know, how much sleep? 63mph AVERAGE over 462 miles, including nadgery Lakes, Highlands and Snowdonian back roads!  That is why that record is unlikely to ever be broken.

Wonderful stuff.  Frank was deffo enjoying some serious type 1 fun while Joss suffered the type 2!

Amazing how fast he could run on a 1971 headtorch too.

The words awesome, legend, inspirational are often given away too lightly to sportspeople, not in his case, he was all of those and more. Great watch thank you.

No idea whether his Three Peaks record was actually in the dark (12 hrs) but amongst his other haul of records he most definitely did run in the dark before the advent of even a half decent Petzl never mind Cree LEDs. What an absolute legend!!

Is there anything in the rules which says that it has to be done by car? I reckon that with a helicopter even I could beat that time...

Proud to say that I shook his hand after completing my Joss Naylor Challenge a few years ago. Also shared a minibus ride with him after the Presentation Dinner.

I too have had a Joss Naylor handshake but I don't really like to mention it...

Here's me on the right of the 'podium'.

That's a great write-up MrSparkle. Now then at 71 could I do it in 24 hours? Erm... No.

A nice watch on a filthy morning here, thanks. Encouraging for this 48yo enjoying a new wave of hill running.
