Need a new hoover, light and easy for stairs £150 ish budget any recommendations?
Cheers
Bought a Miele S2111 (I think!) for 100 quid recently from amazon and it's unbelievably powerful. Had to turn it down a bit, as it was lifting the bloody carpet!.
Really pleased with it, never realised how truly shite the Panasonic before it was until now.
+1 for Miele
Don't get a Dyson
The search function top right hand side. 🙂
Like Cbike says - search for the thread that has the most references to "Sebo".
My Electrolux cylinder vacuum which was held together by a helluva amount of duct tape recently burnt it's motor out after 20 years of use so i replaced it with a Bosch from John Lewis, i was going to plump for the Mielle S2111 as mentioned above but i wanted one that was bag less, with hindsight i should have replaced my old Electrolux years ago as what the Bosch removed from my one carpet just about made me throw up.
+1 miele
sebo. *nearly* as good as a vorwerk.
My Miele was rubbish. All it did was go ooooooooooh! Can't even say it sucked. It did suck, but not in the way I'd hoped.
Had a Samsung too, which had all kinds of Design Award stickers over it. Clearly designed by a designer, and not an engineer. nice big wheels that'll roll over anything, but as they poke out 5mm they'l catch on every door, every corner of furniture, and due to the shape would mostly want to turn upside down onto it's designer sculpted silver top side. Where it did actually like getting pulled around without getting stuck on anything.
So don't get anything with a Design Award sticker on it (for anything).
Get a Dyson. Bit plasticky, but it sucks. In the vacuum way.
We had dysons for years, right from the dc01. Got fed up with them only lasting a few years before bits start to fall off so bought a sebo x4 pet, far better at doing its job than a dyson and feels well built.
Get a Dyson had 2 in 17 years and only bought the second to upgrade to a newer one, no issues with them.
@knarli - we've done the hoover question quite a few times
I was going to buy a Meile (£200-ish) but the shop assistant recommended a small new Bosch model (£100) which we bought and which frankly is crap, all plastic rubbish. Get a Meile or if you are budget shopping a Henry. Also I am another don't get a Dyson (we had a few which conked out, the no bag thing is a nightmare to empty, over priced). We have a Henry which won't die despite being abused by hoovering up in the garage, patio, car full of bike dirt etc.
Miele ours is 6 years old and still much better than anything else I've seen/tried, try to one with the "STB 101 Mini Turbobrush Vacuum Accessory" for the stairs.
Another vote for a miele. Well built, work well and last for years.
Henry.
Same here Drac.
Strip,service,rebuild.
Ours has been great, would buy another one if it finally wears out*
*Heard bad stories about the ball ones (bearings fail),but Dyson will just keep repairing them for you.
the no bag thing is a nightmare to empty
Hold over a wheelie bin, press the release button, done. Phew! What an effort.
I've replaced 2 hoses fasthaggis and that's it, they cost less than a tenner each.
Drac
Only ever replaced some belt drives(they don't like Lego)and filters.
Did a pikey steal at the tip and got a spare cylinder and cone,so I can wash and dry after emptying. 😉
Numatic Henry, there's a reason why they're commonly seen in shops/offices/hotels etc
there's a reason why they're commonly seen in shops/offices/hotels etc
Yes because they're cheap and you don't normally get pets in shops/offices/hotels. They're fine for carpet tiles or hard floors generally used in shops and offices, but cylinder cleaners aren't great on proper pile carpet.
