* or thereabouts.

I need a new office chair.

Pre COVID I worked rom home 90% of the time.

Current chair is a dining room chair despite us having a dedicated office and I've been a home worker for 10 plus years! Doh.

All suggestions very welcome.

M

Good budget that. I just cheaped out on a £48 one from Argos and it's as comfortable as sitting on a concrete bollard.

Facebook marketplace. Got a clean chair the exact same as work. Solid, adjustable, horrible colour but can't see that when sat on it!

I'm currently sitting on one of these....

Supplied by work. It's as comfy as any other office chair i've ever sat in.

If you are near an Ikea they do loads, not expensive and you can try before buying

You'll be pleased to know that HM Government only pay up to £80 for a chair, hadn't occurred to me to look at second hand, so thanks for the FB tip.

My wife just bought a refurbed chair from here; https://corporatespec.com/

She went for a "Senator Sprint" which cost us £160 and allegedly would have been £600 originally.

Certainly seems a lot more comfortable than Ikea jobs at that price range.

@timmys - did the one that arrive look like it had been refurbished?

When I was up close and personal to put the seat part on the wheels, you could tell it was not new, but I wouldn't say if you were standing next to it you could tell it was used/refurbed.

Unfortunately it needs to be new

...or do you just need a VAT receipt? If so get down to somewhere like this place

Look for second hand Herman Miller chairs - like the Aeron - on Gumtree, Marketplace etc. Tough, comfortable and spares are available if required.

I got one of these - £99 new from John Lewis and... it's OK. I remember my battered and wonky office chair that's still in the office being more comfy. I'll try again with a foot stool/support thing though.

I was on the other thread. I had two worn and faulty “expertly” refurbished chairs. When I said I wanted a refund, a chap turned up with yet another chair when I was expecting them to just take the broken second chair away. Then I had to chase 3 times for a refund.

Apparently I am very unlucky according to the company but it put me off completely and ended up with some generic thing from my wife’s work for free. Which Does the job, and importantly the gas strut actually works.

I think you are rolling the dice getting a second hand refurb, they do not appear to replace the struts or do much else other than reupholster. So the claims of expertly refurbed seem a little exaggerated in my opinion. You may of course get a slightly used one, in which case brilliant, you may also get two reupholstered but scratched up ones with broken gas struts.

Btw I am a cyclist so not some sort of fat biffer at 78kg

On the previous thread I ended up with a Giroflex something from 2ndhnd.com and it’s bang on. Much more comfort than the Argos one it replaced, I think I paid £125.
It’s second hand but in good nick and they’ll send you a VAT receipt.
