I'm a bit excited, new series, original cast, radio 4, 6.30 tonight.
Oh..
Boy..
Original cast? Even those who are dead?
Errrrr!
Everyone.
I'm following instructions. First glass.
I hear that they are using .ventriloquis
They are using Eoin Colfer’s appalling book And Another Thing, a book so poor in comparison to the rest of the series that I’d forgotten it existed and that I read it and hated. Not expecting much, and ten minutes in not enjoying much..
Not sure about it. A lot of recycled phrases from the old series, and some the original cast's voices have changed a lot, so it seems quite different. Plot seems a bit disjointed, but that's normal.
I remember reading And Another Thing but I can't really remember anything about it, except I think there were Asgardians. I tend to listen to the Radio 4 18:30 comedy shows anyway so I'll give this a shot.
I never read any of the books but was looking forward to the series the last time it was on R4 as I knew people loved it but I just couldn't get into it. Same with tonight's episode. Oh well.
Didn't know there was another book not written by Douglas Adams
Seems a very odd decision when his style was so inventive and unique.
Maybe I'll jack my work in and write a new Jane Austen novel instead, her stuff seems quite popular.
It was shit!
It was shit!
It was, wasn’t it. I seem to remember hating the book because it was completely frantic and the characters had lost all of the ‘character’ that Adams gave them. They were cardboard representations. No surprise that Colfer is a kids’ writer.
“Ford, Focus”
That made me smile but it was a bit all over the place with wayyyyyy too much exposition. I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve heard a few more episodes.
I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve heard a few more episodes.
If it follows the book it’s like it until the end.
Ars liked it.
Why oh why oh why oh why do I still have to sign in all the bleedin' time STW?
It left me cold. I remember listening to the original series on the radio, then buying the books, then buying the radio series on tape, then buying it on CD. I won't be bothering this series any further.
Iplayering it at the moment - it's quite "Book" heavy, and missing Adams' wit. I remember accidentally hearing Fit the 7th (the one with Rooster and his towel) and being captivated by it. This time, not so much.
Just sat through episode 2 - anyone else stuck with it so far? Not sure I'll bother with #3.
I listened to the first episode this week and really enjoyed it. Lots of silliness that made me smile. More fun than much of the 'comedy' output on radio 4.
Very poignant that Stephen Hawking voiced the HGttG 2 and powered down at the end.
Just downloaded episode 2...
Listened to Ep.2 whilst cycling back last night; unconvinced so far - it’s rather flat, and the original bits aren’t terribly funny or as inventive as what went before, Should be retitled “Last Chance to Hear, and will give it one more try next week.
I only recently threw away my cassettes that I recorded from the radio the first time it was broadcast.
What bits of this one I've heard were only interesting in the "Oh, is he/she still alive and sounding like before" way.
I quite liked the latest episode. I threw away my cassettes recorded from the radio of the originals when I bought the CDs. Must listen to them again.
Further to my earlier comments.... Just listened to episode 2. Bloody Mitch Ben playing Left Brain and singing one of his stupid songs. Who at the BBC actually finds him funny? He deserves to be on the kids stage at a festival somewhere, not on national radio and NOT in the HHGttG!
Otherwise it was ok.
I gave up after 10 minutes. Very disappointing.
I remember it so fondly when I was a kid, every week was something to get excited about. This is just a bit crap, and I am very sad to say John Lloyd is pretty pants as the voice too.
At least John Finnemore isn't in it. That would completely **** it over.
Sometimes I listen to Radio 4 comedy and think, 'how the hell did this get on the radio?' It isn't funny, or clever or original. Or it's just something I had thought about already but concluded that it wasn't actually amusing. So instantly forgot about it.
My dog jumped out of the van today and fell in a massive puddle. THAT was funny. Probably not one for radio though.
