A few tracks in and I'm not too impressed but then I wanted it to sound like the Chronic but I guess times have changed.
Also not enough Dre on it - should be called a 'produced by Dre' album
7/10 (at most so far)
(wrong forum)
It's not a dre album though it's a soundtrack to the nwa flick.
Dre ain't never coming back - Chronic 2000 was a great comeback - he'll never get that type of resurgence nowadays - the cruel irony being that a sound he had such a hand in creating is now beyond generic - you'd think all that Beats By Dre headphones money would be enough to see him walk off into the sunset legacy intact ..
Frankly a horrible album on first listen. Given it is his last album, and inspired by his return to the NWA days for the film, it is so far from sounding like anything NWA or Dre have done that it is just insane. Typical 4 people featuring on every song stuff.
2001 was a good album, well, some of it was dross, but had some great songs on it.
First Billion Dollar man in hip-hop.
Dre ain't never coming back
He never went away. The most successful person that's ever come from hip hop. He won't do Detox because his time is better spent elsewhere. IMHO; Dre has never been hugely comfortable as a recording artist; he's always been a producer at heart and to be fair to the man, he's not done badly.
You can't just reproduce NWA music. It was of a time that's gone.
I didn't realise it was the soundtrack the NWA flick (kinda obvious when you think about it)
Also listened to the Chronic and Doggy Style all evening which was much better 🙂
