Sprocket

Been waiting a while to find the right one but finally managed to have this fella move in today! Few more weeks and I'm hoping to start trail dog training.

He's a Spinone Italiano, not the colour my other half wanted but he's close!

You're months not weeks from any running of distance with a bike. At 18 months my lad is managing 12 or so km at full pace. I doubt I'll ever get him doing more than 20km in his trail-dog career.
This is him

A friend has bred spinones, gorgeous dogs.

You like constant grooming and shedding don't you?

Cool! Thanks for that - the idea was to get him used to being around bikes when I take the wee one out on her balance bike.

Friend of mine had a Dalmatian, he used to take it marathon training. He'd run in the morning, the dog would still want walking at tea time as normal. It was relentless!

^^^^^^^^
You're months away from taking him out with the wee one on her balance bike too. Your focus should be on one or the other, at least until he has some basic training. Good idea to get him used to bikes though.

Re your friend's dalmatian, don't think a dog necessarily knows the upper limit of how much exercise it needs. Dogs can be relentless for many reasons, not all of them good.

Please don't think I'm being critical. I'm no expert on dogs but I know some of the mistakes humans who have the best of intentions can make with dogs and I wish I'd have known them before.

Hound of stupidity above goes out like a light every evening. It's like his batteries are out. Two walks of around 45 minutes each and some playing with ball (ball is life) are enough for this. He does like a good squirrel hunt while out though which is all the mental stimulation he needs to tire his brain.

He was destructive when not walked at all which is why we ended up with him.

EDIT To add this is only the second one that will run with a bike out of 5 we have re-homed over the years. I know not to push it if they aren't interested and will also abandon if the current one stops listening to direction.

I’m hoping to start trail dog training.

I'll look forward to the extra shit next to the trail, that's what the last trail hound owner I saw thought was acceptable

....and the trail dogs flogged out Knackered joints when it's older.

Stick to what the breed was originally meant to do until the trail dog breed has been interbred with upgraded pads and extra joint cartilage

@thepilot, I get what you're saying, appreciate it, the littlelun is slower than a snail on a pritt stick!

Maybe a trail dog was the wrong term, I don't ride trails any longer :(- since having the youngest last year she's The plan was to get him used to bikes so I can take him out one day with me and the eldest who is still only confident and interested to ride a couple of km on the canal.

Last time I rode my mrb was a 3.6 km ride doing loops of the local pub carpark during lockdown last summer.

Living up to your name as usual I see. Want to give a starter for ten so we can cast unwarranted aspersions back on you?
