You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Looks good, gets great reviews felt nice in the show room. Anyone got any real life beyond the test drive experience? Probably wont go above base spec but will be auto.
had a disco sport loan car from dealer last year for a couple of days
was amazing, HSE one with glass roof and 9 spd paddle shift
loved it
didn't feel the speed, was easy to be doing 80mph and not realise it

Lolocaust 🙂
Saw one parked in a disabled bay at Booths. The driver wasn't disabled.
dont like the shape nor the new Big Disco to come
makes the evoque look stylish
Stupid question, but I assume the Freelander is dead as a model now and the Disco Sport replaces that?
yes - hello DD, welcome back!
Massive bais alert
Why would you buy that and not a Macan ? Over 3-5 years I bet the Porker will be cheaper to own resale included. Downside is 6-9 months wait for a Petrol one.
Had one for a courtesy car couple times. Don't like it, feels like a big barge the way it rolls about.
I'll stick my much more stylish evoque.
#peakSTW
Is that instead of the kuga or the rs4?
Definitely the RS4 out of that list.
stylish evoque lol, I've heard it all now
makes the evoque look stylish
Nothing on the planet makes the evoque look stylish.
A colleague has one. And as soon as he can he'll get rid of it. Reliability poor and the fuel tank is a thimble. Pleasant to do miles in when it works though.
Wanted one, drove the HSE lux in manual for 3 days and despite wanting to love it absolutely hated it. Ride was awful, handled weirdly and was uncomfortable. Drove away in my Q5 which we hated and even that felt better put together ! Ended up in an xc60 which has aged me 15 years
They originally came with a crap engine. The new one is better.
Is on our list (that may or may not get bought).
BIL has one - it's OK but nothing more.
We went and looked at one in the showroom a couple of years ago but were unimpressed with the quality of the interior and it's a little narrow for 3 teenage girls in the back.
On the plus side it's got plenty of off road ability which I bet 99.5% of the buyers wouldn't ever use. We spent the same money on a 2 year old Cayenne which two years down the line, to me, was one of my better decisions.
I'm having a panic attack just reading this.
Other half really wanted one, I didn't. We then had a play in our neighbours, bought due to 7 seats. Turns out the rear seats are so small even a 5yr old is cramped and there no boot space left at all. Engine was sluggish and not a fan of the ride. I assume it's awesome off-road though
We then went and bought a Touareg instead, this make me happy.
Edit oh god, it's kryton, there's no way this is actually going to happen, so I've wasted another 5 mins of my life!
Sure you'd be happy that high off the ground?

Mm. Very stylish.

I doubt it he's got far more toys than me.

Ooof!
I had a tour of the Halewood factory in Merseyside where they make the Disco Sport and baby Range Rover, starting with an offroad session. (The things I do for work 😉 ).
It was hard to come away from that without an admiration for the process of manufacturing the things (starting with rolls of steel from Port Talbot) - and the products. The noise and sight of the massive 1950s machines stamping panels, now with incredibly dextrous robots rather than people grabbing and moving the panels is amazing - as is watching the two sets of different bodies separately taking full form, before joining on a common chassis.
I am not in the market for one (I have a Mini to keep the flag flying 🙂 ), but I'd definitely recommend the tour and at least a good look at the cars.
The ultimate inverse tardis! All that big wheels and diffs off road nonsense means although it's massive on the outside, there's less space inside than a focus..........
Evoque is basically a girls car though isn't it
Um... I've recently spent time in a Focus, too - it's definitely not bigger inside 😕

Is that the German flag ?

Clearly lost the plot.
If it's built as badly as my sister in laws Evoque, I would avoid.
18months old and twice it's been recovered, latest trick is tyre pressure monitors or ABS showing random information.
It likes coolant too. Like it disappears.
Lol @bikebuoy - otherwise an Indian flag for JLR products.
Just feels nice to support some local manufacturing.

What's their offroad track like? It looks spectularly shite from the road, the Solihull play are was great fun and quite a sales tool for Range Rover.
Personally I feel the evoque is a more cohesive product. The disco sport feels like it's a combination of bits/design an bits made to work with what's already there rather than from the ground up.
What's their offroad track like?
Grass verges, speed bumps, kerbs, pavements, car park intersections, mini-roundabouts etc.

Kuga Replacement.

You forget I'm having therapy now, my ability to make decisions is returning. Besides...
angeldust - MemberEvoque is basically a girls car though isn't it
This'll be Mrs K's car and its what SHE wants...
We've sat in it and played around, has the kids & inlaws in chgecking out the extra 2 seats in the boot, felt OK to me. As we're having the auto by deafult we get the 184bhp engine, and its likely to be leased / PCP not bought per se.
We're about to take them up on thier "drive it around by yourself for a bit" test drive offer.
Like most of its users, I was a first timer and it served its purpose for the audience. Probably the equivalent of a balance bike track in the MTB world...

You've seen the Halewood one too then.

You are missing from that list;
School zigzag no parking zones, mother and child parking bays, disabled parking bays, swimming pool car parks, hospital A&E no parking zones, traffic calming intersections, and the whole bay/fill up area of a petrol station.
You've got an XC60, right?
That was quick, even for you! Have you already forgotten about the car you were thinking about? The Evoque has 5 seats, the discovery sport has 7.
THis man does.
He really doesn't.
I have, it's been nice but it's too big for me. It replaced an XC90 which was quite the behemoth. Don't be fooled into thinking the XC60 is a big car inside, it ain't, it's tiny a bit like medium sized middle aged Women's handbag. Can hold lipsticks, perfume, small purse, 4 mobile phones, a compact, eye mascara, 3 styling hair brushes, lipsalve, spare bangles, 7 assorted earrings (1 is lost) and a couple of more feminate accessories, and spare pants. But that's it. I still have to take the front wheel off the bike and lie it down, the surfboard always goes on the roof because the passenger seat won't fold flat (damn it!!!!!)
I'm looking at something smaller and less aggro in yer face.
Was thinking about an evoque but Paul Hollywood drives one 😆
Wouldn't you save a fortune in congestion charge if you went for a hybrid?
Mitsubishi do an exempt SUV, Audi do an A3 or there's a little BMW that looks like a pram.
🙂
I had one when I took my wifes' Freelander 2 for a service.
tbh I'm not sure that it's that much better than the Freelander 2 (ours is 4 y/o high-spec 190bhp auto), except in road holding where it felt 'lower'.
Future-wise, I'm not sure what we'd replace the Freelander 2 with in a few years as we need off-road ability plus towing a decent weight for the horsebox, don't need 7 seats, need space for the dogs, live in rural Scotland so shit roads plus snow are always a concern. Bikes just go on the towbar rack. And we like Land Rovers, FL1 before for 6 years.
Wouldn't you save a fortune in [s]congestion charge[/s] looking like a ponce if you went for a [s]hybrid[/s] proper 4x4?
Fixed that.
Defender if you don't like people laughing at you.
Land Cruiser if you don't like your chosen mechanic laughing at you.
🙂
I like Defenders.
If I was more of an incurably romantic Meccano fan I'd have one.
Well, I'd have a 2CV, or an early Panda 4*4 but you get the point.
But I don't live in London, with London bills.
🙂
So the bonus on sales you told us you hadn't managed to do came through then?
Future-wise, I'm not sure what we'd replace the Freelander 2 with in a few years
Jeep Grand Cherokee? I looked at several options and it was the biggest reasonably (I use the term loosely) priced 4x4 that didn't have 7 seats.
My friend has one, he's not a fan, it's a bit small. Get a proper Disco if you're desperate for a LR product.
So the bonus on sales you told us you hadn't managed to do came through then?
No
Im with you bikebuoy, I like those as well, and she likes driving my 1er so a test drive may change things. Its not quite as big although the kids are beyond the age of the biggest child seats and paraphanalia needed tp be carried around.
Going to the hybrid comments - petrol or hybrid is a big option, as the car is used 80 % for school runs. I did the theory on the hybrid beemer which neither of us like the look of, and discovered itd do the whole school run of course with no petrol being used.
Has Hora started a new life and been given a new identity (with extra funding)?
I'm not sure he is being as discrete as he should be....
Hybrid Outlander is roomy enough but the seven seat option is lost due to the rear electric motor. You do get around 200bhp from the combined power output though. Early models are a bit more stylish than the facelift ones.
A friend has one. She turned up last night in a Range Rover so I asked why. Apparently her new Disco is in for the third time with electrical issues that are so far baffling the dealer.
She wasn't impressed.
Hybrid Outlander is roomy enough but the seven seat option is lost due to the rear electric motor.
The problem with this is that then you'd have a Mitsushitty Outlander
im a land rover fan.
but seeing how bad the electrics are on cars without much in the way of electrics ( defenders) i wouldnt bother with a range rover or disco. Id buy a prado if i wanted something of that ilk.
Parents have a 4 door evoque - if you want a dependable sizable family car i would look else where its a pokey shoe box and has its electrical foibles as stock for a landy.
It is how ever the comfiest thing ive ever driven - far better than their previous C and E class mercs.
Choose life.
had a test drive in November, also XC60 and X3. Ordered an A6 estate instead. Bigger, nicer to drive, low roof for bike racks, cheaper on a 4 yr PCP (a lot cheaper). Good enough in snow in quattro edition.
So the bonus on sales you told us you hadn't managed to do came through then?
They don't cost that much to lease, although 6 months payments would buy you a mac that would be great for surfing the web, homework, posting middle class angst threads on stw and other stuff 🙂

choose facebook, choose twitter, choose instagram
My parents have one it is very nice indeed, very comfortable and lovely to dive. The boot isn't s great size though but that might not matter.
Saw one parked in a disabled bay at Booths. The driver wasn't disabled.
Might have been my Dad but we don't have a Booths near us, he's registered disabled though not sure if you're able to spot it though. Of course it could also have been me picking him up after having an episode whilst out.
Don't forget a nice summer holiday. They don't cost that much to lease, although 6 months payments would buy you a mac that would be great for surfing the web, homework, posting middle class angst threads on stw and other stuff

Yes, some time ago.

Now I AM envious.
XC 40?? By jingo that looks great!
I might wait a little longer, any ideas on release???

I believe you can do this with any car, doesn't need to be a Disco Sport .
Don't forget a nice summer holiday.
No, that's a different budget, holidays are paid for by simply skipping your rent for a bit. It's fine to do that.

Not by me its a genuine question, although the X1 is back on the test drive list and I'd imagine that XC40 to be tiny if the XC60 is small already?
She won't have the new Kuga, Quashqai, Skoda, Kia or Honda although the Seat Ateca is on the test drive list.
Our XC60 feels enormous in terms of load capacity.
What can you get in it ? I can get 2 bikes in mine with front wheels off and lying them down only. My surfboard won't go in because the passenger seat doesn't fold flat..
I'll admit when I bought it that I knew about the bikes, I rarely carry both. But was disappointed to find the passengers seat doesn't fold flat (forward or backward)
Nice car though, I've got the D4 auto SE and it's a nice place to be and surprisingly easy to drive.
Ok, I'll look into XC60's as well, thanks.
I can fit 2 bikes with wheels of, a pram and a passenger in the back of my XC60. I have D3 SE manual and its a nice car to drive.
You do know we're being trolled? Not by me its a genuine question,
the car is used 80 % for school runs
Are you sure? 🙂
...But also trips to Legoland family trips, MTB weekends away...
I've had 2 Tallboys with front wheels off and bars turned, a fully diasemebled hardtail and a 4 year old in a seat plus a bootfull of luggage.
