My computer is starting to show its age (5 years old). It won't take any more ram and graphics card and DVD are starting to play up.

Thinking about a replacement for just the tower. Its from Mesh so have looked at their options. Also had a look at dell.

Where else should I look?

Build your own is always a good option if you have some knowledge of computers.

Aria, ocuk and advanvetech are worth googling as they have prebuilt systems at various price points.

It really does depend on what you use it for

+1 for build Your own. eBuyer is a good place to get parts. Buy the bits You want and then put it all together or if You don't know how than go buy a ready made tower, but it's always nice to have what You want on the computer. Thing is, sometimes buying a tower from a supermarket/store can be like buying bikes, it all looks good but parts You don't see can be low quality like a power supply.

[edit] 2TB HDD is a must then 😉 [edit]

I would say to anyone thinking about building their own, that it really is much easier than you image.

All the things that "connect" ie power supply to mother board, are connectors that you just can't get wrong, they are all specific shapes. Everyhting realy just screws in together, and frankly if you can wire a plug, or change a lightbulb, then as long as you are patient, it's not really dificult.

Building PC's is fairly easy, its troubleshooting any build problems, installing the OS, drivers etc that causes major headaches.
If you can get someone experienced to build it with you, so you can learn and DIY next time.
If not buy a prebuilt machine for minimum hassle.

Keep an eye on http://www.hotukdeals.com/computers/all/hot

For example, this is a beast of a PC for the price (change the windows to the 64bit version for no extra cost tho).

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/629942/dell-vostro-430-core-i7-860-quad-co

(the deal has 'expired' but it just means it has gone up by 30 quid. Still cheap).

Just have a look down the recent deals - there was a decent spec tower unit for 230 quid a few days ago.

Cheers for tips. I had thought about building my own. How ever some of the issues lazgoat raised concerned me.

Are all the components compatible with one another? Just plug it all together and install the os? I assumed it wouldn't be that simple and so chickened out of the idea.

Build your own is crap advice IMO, you don't save money and you have a nightmare if something doesn't work (i.e. trying to determine whether the issue is a crack on the motherboard solder you bought from shop X or the graphics card you bought from shop Y). Yes it can be rewarding and you can get the exact spec. but unless you really want to do it there's more negatives than positives.

Just buy another Mesh tower with the new MS operating system, or fix your old one.

I've built a few in the past, but at the cost of some of the better deals (like the Dell one mentioned above), it's no longer really worth while.
