£2000 for the first year and then £450 a year for the next 5 if your initial RRP for the car was over £40k
That's me out for a 340i Sport Touring then*
*this is actually irrelevant as I can't even afford the tax never mind the car..
Any change to VED for vans?
Pay £540pa for my car (2007) already which stings especially as I only do 5,000 miles pa.
People should have voted remian then if they dont like moar tax.
Hahahahahaha.

Doesn't need to be anything fancy either, my OH's previous Freelander ended up in this category too - 2.0 diesel turbo auto...
Glad though we bought our 435d last year, no way would we have bought one post-April.
Should have vited remian then Jamby.
Unlikely to have made any difference.
It's the first year sting that will raise an eyelid, the yearly VED thereafter is high admittedly but most can afford that.
I can see a few manufacturers dropping their RRP just to sneak under that.
Bit like fines for speeding, parking or using a phone whilst driving.
You can avoid it by not being fool.
Cars seem incredibly price inelastic. In Singapore a Golf costs £75k and they still have far too many cars. Lambo's / Ferraris are £400k and I have never seen so many even in SW London.
The 2k in the first year is only if it's got the highest level of emissions though. I think it's a bit harsh on people who bought economical, but not fully electric, cars whose annual ved has gone up 5 fold under the new system.
Could manufacturers get around it by preregistering cars and sell them after a year?
Just another nail in why I'll not be rushing out to buy a new car...

Care to show how you worked that little gem out?
In all reality, let's be fair, it's a Tax hike in its purest form.
Simple, Tax the middle man and reap in the most money. If it captures the higher Band of that group then the aspirationalists get stung.
Taxes can come in handy for stuff like the erm NHS, social care...

I thought brexit would cover that? Have I been mislead?
And Bombs, don't forget Bombs.
That aircraft carrier won't get nice new F35 planes without all that lovely tax. We'll have to let some tin-pot power use it on loan... Oh.
Could use a Ghibli now, since no one is going to buy them..
