I've had a small Canon IXUS that's done me proud for years but is now starting to misbehave.
I can remember the buzz about it when I first bought it - so what would be the equivalent replacement these days?

Not sure of your budget but have a look at dpreview.com The Lumix range seem to get good reviews.
I'm holding out for a Lumix GF-1 at some point in 2010.

Yeah i used a Lumix compact the other day and as a staunch SLR user i was surprised how good it was.

Panasonic LX3? I think at the moment is the best compromise between very portable and near DSLR capabilities.
