We're sizing up the costs of replacing our 25 year old Alpha boiler, which I reckon is on borrowed time.
We're not looking for a full new refit, just the boiler.
Anybody got any idea of a rough guesstimate of ballparkyness of how much we should be looking to pay? We're particularly keen on the Valliant Ecotec range, having done a weeee bit research they seem to get a good write up and a 5 year parts and labour warranty.....
Any Gas-safe clued up chaps on here? 😀

Decent boilers are around the £1k to £1.5k range, plus fitting.

Have a look at Viessmann too, we got one fitted about 3 years ago and very pleased with it. Comes with 5 years parts & labour. Also has an external temp sensor which saves money as the boiler doesnt work as hard when temperatures are higher.

Buy a Vailiant, or a Worcestor.

We paid £2500 for ours, but that included moving it from the kitchen to the bedroom above. As it was directly above the old site the pipes had to just be re-run slightly. British Gas quoted £1500 more!

Boiler was a Worcester Bosch

I reckon I'd be looking at about £3k for a flush, supply new boiler and fit, does that sound reasonable? I don't see there being any additional problems, but I'm no expert...... 😆 *breathes deeply through gritted teeth*

Yeah, I've heard British Gas are a bit steep, but we were maybe going to get a quote from them anyway, seeing as how they've been telling us that ours is past it for the last 10 years. Someone else advised I get a quote from BG, knock about a grand off it and thats what I should look to pay! 😆

My quote from BG was actually not too bad. More than some but less than other larger local firms.

If you are quick (by the end of the month) you could get a 5yr warranty from Worcester.

For boiler prices look at sites like plumbnation and mrcentralheating and then factor in the labour price and things like flue etc. For a simple swap from a self employed independent I would say something like £400 labour.

+ is it a combi or system with a tank?

and I would also consider getting a new more modern controller. I got the Honeywell 927 as it has the optimiser functions, is very easy to use and was £100 less than the equivalent Worcester one. Only thing missing is control of the pre-heat function for the hot water but in a 1 bed flat I wouldn't use that feature anyway.

Current System with header tank in the attic and hot cylinder removed, and replaced with a combi on its own.

If I need to replace mine (see my thread from yesterday) I would chat with my plumber to ask what's best, buy it online and get him to install.

It seems that some independant tradesmen no longer supply, presumably cos it's a faff, and there are cheaper deals online.
